Gavin Lee
6:00
Hello and welcome everyone! I'll start in a few minutes after people have filtered in and some questions have built up.
John
6:09
Isles try to replace Lee a for sure thing to happen?
Gavin Lee
6:10
I don't think they will try to replace him directly, as in the same type of player, but I'm pretty confident they will add a forward before the deadline, yes.

Would it have been wiser for the Lightning to seek better draft compensation rather than a prospect who is very unlikely to ever play for them in exchange for Volkov?
Gavin Lee
6:11
Yes, I was rather surprised at the low return too, Volkov is a real talent if he can put it all together.
6:12
But I also don't really doubt Tampa's pro scouts
John
6:12
USA juniors vs the Sabres. Who wins?
Gavin Lee
6:12
Wow
Uhh
6:13
It's probably the Sabres, but I mean the fact that it's not definitely the Sabres says a lot
Bill
6:14
With the quarantine changing in Canada going to 7 days, do you see a lot more activity before and at the deadline? How aggressive do you thinks the Bruins will be? More secondary scoring required and a LD.
Gavin Lee
6:14
Don't think it will really affect things that much
Especially for a team like the Bruins
I do think they will be looking to do the same kind of deal that landed them Charlie Coyle
6:15
Is that aggressive? I'm not sure. The Sweeney regime doesn't just throw around draft picks, they are more careful and strike when a player they've liked for a while becomes available.
Maybe now that the core is aging and getting closer to the end, it'll be more of a pressing issue
Sharks fan
6:15
What moves do you see the sharks doing at the deadline? Any chance Kane can be moved with the bankruptcy case?
Gavin Lee
6:16
I'll be honest, the reason we had Zach cover the Kane piece is that he has a law degree and that stuff is generally over my head. I'm not sure of the kind of consequences a trade would have, or if it would even be possible in this kind of situation.
6:17
So no, I don't think Kane is going anywhere at the deadline, if only because it would be very complicated
as for other moves? I don't think you'll see the sweeping changes that some are hoping for
Maybe a few depth pieces sold off
But even that, there aren't a lot of buyers for those kinds of pieces this season
ROB
6:18
Do the Wild sign Boldy to an ELC and make him their deadline acquisition?
Gavin Lee
6:19
I hope so! But I don't have much insight into whether he'll go back to school.
I think Boldy is ready for pro hockey and I'd love to see him, but there is nothing wrong with staying another year and dominating the college circuit again, in a more normal schedule
John
6:20
What should the Sabres do with eichel long term?
Gavin Lee
6:23
So here is my thought. You're going to lose the trade. There's no way you get back a player better than Eichel. He's going to have a great career, potentially a Hall of Fame career depending on where he ends up.

But it's just not working and with him on that deal, you have to try and get better every year. You can't just be happy playing the youngsters and being the scrappy young Senators. You're supposed to compete, you have one of the best in the world! But nothing is going to happen with this group.

So I would move him, and I would let the outgoing GM do it. Don't make that the first thing a new GM has to do, don't attach it to the new coach. Clear him and everyone else out, get as much as you can, and bring in new people for a new Sabres era.

6:24
Hey, Gavin.  Would the Kings deal Dustin Brown, who fits some Eastern Division teams (if LA retains $ for this year and next)?  Thanks.
Gavin Lee
6:24
I can't remember where now (sorry!) but someone suggested recently he could be an Anders Lee replacement in New York.
6:26
Lou will usually do something you don't expect, so maybe when everyone is looking at Palmieri and Hall, he goes out west for his shopping instead.
ROB
6:27
Who hangs up in a Dumba for Morgan Frost, 2022 1st rounder, Eric Gustaffson (cap evener) trade offer?
Gavin Lee
6:27
I'd have to look into it closer, but I think that would give Philadelphia the same problem that Minnesota faces--the looming expansion draft
I guess the Ekholm/Ellis talk does that as well, just maybe feel like Dumba isn't the guy to make that move for.
Brian S
6:28
Trade Ekholm now or Ellis in the offseason?
Gavin Lee
6:28
It might end up being Ekholm in the offseason, after expansion.
6:29
I think that's probably where I'd go, unless someone stepped up with that 1st round-top prospect-third asset ask at the deadline
I wouldn't trade Ryan Ellis.
Justin
6:29
What is Ryan Dzingel worth?
Gavin Lee
6:29
Not a ton. Mid-round pick
John
6:30
Thoughts on Tim peel incident? Isn’t this a normal generally accepted thing refs do?
