Yeah, but you can't get caught.
Don't be fooled though, despite some mild embarrassment, Peel's life isn't going to change. He just doesn't have to work the next few weeks
6:31
I'd like to reiterate this because I don't know how many headlines I saw that were incorrect
Peel was not fired
He was not really reprimanded in any public way, other than that short statement from the league.
6:32
He just "no longer will be working NHL games now or in the future."
Retirement already planned in April, easy out for the league
6:33
As for what he was actually doing? I don't think the game should have make-up calls or purposeful non-calls, but it always will.
We just have to hope that it doesn't get biased by officials trying to turn outcomes directly towards a certain team.

RE: Tim Peel - most hockey fans know that there is a systematic issue of refs trying to even things when they call a game rather than following the rule book.  What other sports does this?
Gavin Lee
6:34
Every sport

Is anybody worth Sandin, Robertson, or Amirov on the market?
Gavin Lee
6:36
Rentals, probably not.
Players like Ekholm aren't available at his cap hit very often, I would be intrigued by that if, as you are suggesting I guess, I was Toronto.
Ron Duguay
6:37
If you're Spencer Knight and the Panthers have a logjam at goaltender, why not stay at Boston College until you become a college FA?
Gavin Lee
6:38
Do they have a log jam at goalie though?
6:39
Bobrovsky is being paid a lot, but Driedger is a UFA at the end of the season. Montembeault won't stand in Knight's way
6:40
I don't think for a second really that Knight will go the UFA route
Ron Duguay
6:40
Well, they can sign and protect Driedger and see if Seattle take Bob (unless he has no moment clause)
Gavin Lee
6:40
He does have a no-movement clause, yes
And why would Driedger do that, isn't he facing the same logjam that Knight would?
6:41
He knows he won't get substantial money in net while they have Bobrovsky, but what if another team wants to give him a deal like that Scott Darling one from a few years ago
6:42
I think it's more likely that Bobrovsky is bought out at some point down the line when they feel like Knight is ready to take over full-time
Which isn't tomorrow, even though he's a top prospect, that's the other thing to remember here
6:43
Knight isn't an NHL starter yet.
Ron Duguay
6:43
Fair points, but what if Driedger leads the Panthers on a long playoff run?  That would force their hand to keep him since they would finally have a competitive team.
Gavin Lee
6:43
Again though, wouldn't that just make him even more valuable on the open market?
It's not just Florida that decides whether he signs a new deal
Justin
6:44
Who is in worse shape moving forward, San Jose or Nashville?
Gavin Lee
6:44
Oof
San Jose probably
6:45
But I mean it's not great for either one
6:46
It's just, in 2024-25 they will still be paying Logan Couture, Erik Karlsson, Brent Burns and Marc-Edouard Vlasic a combined cap hit of $34.5MM
Brent Burns is 36 already guys
6:47
That's not even including Kane or Jones who are expensive long-term deals
Nashville is in trouble but the Sharks..I just don't even know what to think
NScotia14
6:48
Is Zegras up for the year? Will he be productive for the year?
Gavin Lee
6:48
I don't think Zegras is going anywhere
