One thing to also remember is that the perceived value of a draft pick before its used, still seems to not line up with what it's actually worth. By that I mean, a 3rd round pick seems to be worth much more than a player recently selected in the third round.
6:24
The "mystery box" feeling, plus the belief that "my scouts are better than your scouts" makes front offices value picks more than prospects
Sometimes far too much
Okay on to other stuff

Does the flat cap maybe open things up more for potential offer sheets? Thinking someone like yzerman gets in on the action?
Gavin Lee
6:25
I don't think anyone really knows how it will affect offer sheets right now, but I just want to remind everyone before we get to the offseason. Offer sheets have to be signed by the player
You can't just steal a guy you want
6:26
They have to be interested in going somewhere. It makes it very difficult, when trying to sneak players off great organizations that are contending and spending to the cap
I don't think we see a rush of offer sheets this offseason or any offseason

What is the best website for advanced stats? I know that all the good ones are now behind paywalls, so if I was to join just one, what would you recommend?
Gavin Lee
Most of the paywall folks are the ones who make the nice easy infographics (player cards) so you won't find that here.
6:28
But if you want to dig into the stats, they're all there

are my Jets done? They have no defence and the scoring has dried up. Also what do they need to add on defence besides heinola
Gavin Lee
6:28
Certainly not done, but I was disappointed in their deadline activity because I agree, they needed defense.
6:29
Jordie Benn isn't it--he isn't even really the fit they needed
They are desperately searching for a defenseman who can get the puck, escape trouble and make a controlled breakout pass to their forwards or skate the puck out.
6:30
Benn isn't it and I don't know if you can rely on Heinola to be it (as much as I love him as a player) in the playoffs.
I am very worried about them in the playoffs, because if they keep just throwing stuff into the neutral zone and letting McDavid wind up, they're going to have a bad time.

With bozak Schwartz and Hoffman UFA’s, can kyrou and Thomas be too 6 guys? What is there upside?
Gavin Lee
6:31
They can certainly be top six players
6:32
I think Kyrou can be a first line winger, or at least a second line guy who is on PP1
6:33
Thomas is a little different because his defensive ability could actually limit how far he goes up, because I'm not sure they'd ever really let him loose with offensive zone starts
By that I mean, I think he'll settle in as a middle-six two-way center
Not a top, top guy
6:34
I've always been very high on Kyrou! He's a favorite to watch

6:34
What much time needed before Spencer Knight becomes #1 goalie in FLA?
Gavin Lee
6:34
None?
Haha
I don't think it's completely out of the question to see him in the Florida net during the playoffs

Can Alexander Khovanov be as good as Kaprizov?
Gavin Lee
6:35
I'd be very surprised if he ever reached that level.
6:36
Not that he can't play, but Kaprizov is at another level

We all know that the Tkachuks and Tom Wilson are somewhat of unicorns as true Power Forwards in the modern NHL. Are there any prospects coming through in the next few years who project similarly?
Gavin Lee
6:38
I mean they're called unicorns for a reason, but someone like Will Cuylle who recently signed his entry-level deal with the Rangers is in the same mold

They won't make the Cup Final in year 1
Someone hold me to that

scary situation for Rossi and glad to hear he is recovering. Can he make it in the top 6 next season and give gurein that centre he has been talking about ?
