Don't get me wrong, goaltenders are impossible to really know, but he's small and not polished enough.

I don't think it's anything against his ability--they said they wanted to start him on the wing and then move him to the middle eventually if the need was there.
I wouldn't be surprised if he comes out next season as a C on opening night

To be clear, Tortorella almost certainly won't be fired, he doesn't have a contract for next season
They just don't appear to be bringing him back

Quite frankly, I don't know. I don't understand the legal side of it well enough to really give an answer here.

My gut feeling is that it was a legal move and there was never any real risk of him leaving the sharks, but I actually can't really say

His statements seemed like he was much more interested in joining a front office
And that was part of the breakup in Colorado, not having enough control
