Alain Vigneault seems like he made an impression on the team that they successfully followed his lead for a year and a third.  Then Covid hit.  Assuming Covid does not make players forget how to play hockey, he seems like he lost the team after that.  Benched the youth but let the vets play but they weren't really playing any better with few exceptions.  Fletcher keeps saying he's the man, but could it be time to part with him?  Easier to replace a coach than a roster?

I think if Bergevin leaves Montreal it will be partly his decision too. Very close with ownership and they will have had many transparent and honest talks.
I think the odds are still in favor of an extension rather than a termination
In terms of Eichel, sure, he would help them

And for a 1C, I don't think people should overlook Nick Suzuki. I think he can be that

Not necessarily saying that Suzuki will be the league's best defensive player for a decade, but Bergeron is a true 1C without being a really flashy offensive player--or at least not an offensive player that really carries his linemates.
If you get Suzuki a couple of top-end wingers, Montreal could have an elite line

Who the Ducks select will depend on who goes in front of them, but at #4 there will be some very interesting options. I think the idea of pairing Luke Hughes and Jamie Drysdale together is hard to pass up
But then again Mason McTavish could be that true center
