It seems like people are overreacting to a deal that is very reasonable for a third-pairing player
It doesn't really have anything to do with Hyman and Andersen
Getting him signed doesn't mean they have a deal worked out with Seattle
It doesn't mean they are trading Rielly
It's just getting an asset under contract
6:32
And it's, maybe like $100,000 more than I was expecting per season?
Dermott is an NHL defenseman, making twice the league minimum. Sounds about right.
Doug
6:33
Do the Habs have the assets to acquire Eichel?
Gavin Lee
6:33
They certainly have the assets, yes
But I have a hard time believing they would part with them
Because Nick Suzuki is very good at hockey
Adam
6:34
Would it be wise for the Wild to use it's two first round picks to move up, pick up an established player or just stand pat?
Gavin Lee
6:34
I know everyone likes to talk about moving up, but it very rarely happens in the early part of the first round for hockey
6:35
Trading for a player, perhaps the way Pittsburgh did for Kasperi Kapanen, seems more likely if they trade the picks
Get a youngish player that is ready to contribute but is under control for a few more years
6:36
Not a guy signed long-term, not a guy in his 30s

6:37
You think suzuki signs long term for montreal
Gavin Lee
6:37
Oh yes
He will be the face of the franchise soon enough, I think
Tony G
6:38
what do you think the plans are for the knights? Do they dump flurey and trade smith?
Gavin Lee
6:38
A Reilly Smith trade is a very real possibility I think
But no, I don't think they're dumping Fleury
He is too important to the identity of the team
Tony G
6:41
Yeah I agree with that, kind of wish they wouldn’t have signed lenher, they have Thompson in the pipeline and should be ready to go sooner rather than later.
Gavin Lee
6:42
The one thing I like to point out to people when they say "Vegas can't win with that much money tied up in goaltending!" is that Montreal just beat them with more money tied up in their goalie tandem.
6:43
Wouldn't you rather have two Vezina-capable goalies, than one "if he's on he's the best" and one pretty solid backup?
I mean when Price isn't good, the Canadiens aren't good. When Fleury isn't good, the Golden Knights can just plug in Lehner
I don't think it's the end of the world to keep them both for this year
6:44
Let him retire a Golden Knight
And then have a very capable starter locked in at $5MM for three more years after that
Dan
6:45
Odds the ducks get eichel? If they don’t, and keep the 3 pick, who do you see them grabbing ? Thanks!
Gavin Lee
6:46
I think the odds are relatively low
Just because I think there will be lots of teams with similar odds, if he is healthy enough to be traded
6:47
At #3, I mean it would be incredible to get Jamie Drysdale his career-long partner wouldn't it?
Luke Hughes will be sitting there (most likely)
And that would be a very exciting duo
Still, there may be some fireworks at the top
6:48
William Eklund is getting some late helium and could throw a wrench into that top group
If Beniers gets past Seattle, he and Zegras could be the team's next Getzlaf/Perry combo
Even though they're very different players obviously
Connecting…
