Since they added the other young defensemen I've wondered about Zadorov's future in Colorado, and the emergence of Graves has me wondering again.
6:35
He's an RFA after this season, but the Avs can't really afford to give him an extension buying out any UFA years.
Matt
6:35
Seems like bednar just hates the guy. He is always the one to get benched. Even when Girard continually plays subpar hockey.
Gavin Lee
6:35
I'd disagree with the subpar hockey from Girard, but Zadorov definitely irks Bednar somehow.
6:36
Remember he only played ~14 minutes in that Caps game, even though he scored.
6:37
He's a name I'd really keep an eye on this season, especially if the Avalanche believe they're Cup contenders and want to go after a big name at the deadline.
6:41
Completely just spitballing here, but boy would that be an interesting suitor for Hall if he actually ends up on the block.
The Avalanche have names like Jost/Timmins they could dangle as well.
Olli Juolevi
6:43
Do you think Juolevi and Virtanen’s selections in the top-5 should be included in Jim Benning’s ‘very good’ draft history?
Gavin Lee
6:44
Well Virtanen wasn't in the top five, and he was picked like a month after Benning got the job.
6:45
So no, I don't include him, though remember that in that draft Bennett went 4th, Dal Colle went 5th, Fleury went 7th and Ritchie went 10th.
But the Juolevi thing, yeah it looks tough right now.
6:46
But injuries have been a huge part of that, and he could still turn around his career.
Only 21 and a defenseman.
Puljujarvi's struggles may actually take some of the spotlight off that though.

2020 Draft Talk: Do you see Lucas Raymond giving Alexis Lafreniere a run as the top pick? Would you be willing to take a goalie (Askarov) in the Top 5?
Gavin Lee
6:47
Raymond is a very good player, but I can't see him catching Lafreniere to be honest.
6:48
Lafreniere is going to score 150 points in the Q this season. I can't see someone passing on him (unless maybe it's for Byfield because they want that big center)
6:49
As for Askarov, no--I wouldn't. But that's just a personal draft philosophy, nothing against the prospect.
He's incredible, and may well become the best drafted goalie prospect in the league immediately.
6:50
He's a sure fire first-rounder for me, and I don't even like doing that with goalies.
George
6:50
Does David Pastrnak have a chance for 50+ goals? Also, is the B's #1 line the best in hockey?
Gavin Lee
6:51
If you could only see the internal messages at PHR, I posed that same question to another writer the other day.
I think Pastrnak could definitely score 50.
As for the best line in hockey, they're obviously among those elite groups. Whether they're they absolute best, I think people could debate that on any given night.
6:52
They're pretty much unstoppable though and an incredible luxury for Bruce Cassidy to put over the boards every night

Gavin how do u feel bout BOS this year?
Gavin Lee
6:53
The Bruins are one of the best teams in the NHL and will be a tough out in the playoffs once again.
They are deep, mean and talented.
If they don't get one of the Atlantic playoff spots I would be shocked.
Justin
6:54
What could Dylan Demelo return in a trade. I feel he is a building block for the Sens d-core but as a pending UFA they'll probably at least dangle him.
Gavin Lee
6:54
Honestly you probably wouldn't get a TON for him. A 2nd/3rd at the deadline.
6:55
I'd just bring him back, he wouldn't be very expensive.
Dan
6:55
Thoughts on the ducks play to start the season? Does it continue? Thanks!
Gavin Lee
6:56
I said this before the season started. Any team that has John Gibson in net could make the playoffs.
I think he's fueling their strong start more than fans might like to admit, but it has certainly been fun to watch.
Bruins
6:57
Will bruins trade for 2nd line player they been missing for number of yrs ?
Gavin Lee
6:58
All last season I said that I didn't think the Bruins felt comfortable dumping a huge amount of futures at the deadline again and might not be involved in the very top names, and that came true--instead flipping Donato and some mid round picks for Coyle and Johansson.
6:59
I wonder if it might be the same this time around. Wait until the deadline, then move a younger talent for some help
I don't know if they'll go wild on that top option (like a Hall) but they'll add at some point.
