Hello and welcome to another live chat!
I'll let a few things roll in and get started soon
Seattle Newbie

What's wrong with the Kraken?
Gavin Lee

So a good bit of it is the goaltending. Grubauer posted another  bad number last night. But if you watch the game, the goals that Chicago scored were almost all on counter-attack rushes that turned into prime scoring chances.

One thing I've been wondering about, the more I watch Seattle, is that I think I underestimated how their poor center depth would translate into giving up chances.
Their defenders are good enough, but there is an issue through the neutral zone, and I think it's because not many of their centers are true centers.
5:40
I feel like every night I watch them, there's at least a few times where it's a clean 3-on-2 from the red line in. There's no one getting on the right side of the puck
5:41
Still, if you get a few more saves, some of these losses turn into wins and things don't look so bad

Hey Gavin! Thoughts on what the ducks are doing? Somewhat sustainable? If they keep this up, they have to be buyers at the trade deadline?
Gavin Lee
5:42
The only thing I'd worry about a little bit with the Ducks, is that Terry isn't going to shoot 30% all season. And if he's not scoring the rest of the group doesn't have a ton of real efficient goal scoring.
But man oh man is Trevor Zegras a player.
5:43
I think they can certainly keep pace in the Pacific, now that they've gone on this run. The playoffs are definitely in the picture, even if this hot streak will eventually end
5:44
Buyers at the deadline, I would be a little careful with if I were them, but a mid-level addition would be a nice reward for the group
If it were me, I'd still be trading Lindholm if I can't get him signed.
5:45
I know people don't want to hear that, but there's an opportunity to build around Zegras/McTavish/Drysdale/Terry that doesn't come around all the time
Mike
5:45
Is Vancouver this bad?
Gavin Lee
5:46
Well they're in their own heads now, but I said before the season that I didn't like the look of that defense.
The group is probably rotten now, so changes will have to be made at some level.
Hard to go through this and actually turn it around
5:47
You would think that JT Miller is probably the first name from other GMs in trade calls.
But don't sleep on Tyler Motte, either. He'll draw a lot of interest if available.
5:48
As for the GM/coaching staff--the "vote of confidence" is never good.
Hard to see how they last beyond this season

Is demko play a concern or a product of the team?
Gavin Lee
5:49
Sometimes I think one thing we underestimate for goaltenders is in-game fatigue. When I watch the Canucks, there are barely ever any stretches where Demko can rest or reset
It's either a penalty kill, rush chances against, or cycles in behind his own net.
Not necessarily physical fatigue, but he just has to stay so sharp all the time behind that defense corps that I think it's wearing on him
5:50
He has tons of talent, I don't think he's the problem.
Mike
5:51
See that Boldy is back and Newhook called up. Who is the better player in 3 years?
Gavin Lee
5:51
Whew, that's tough
5:52
I'll flip a coin and say Boldy.
But that's anyone's guess right now
Cbj4life
5:53
Will the jackets let the kids play or will they try and upgrade at the trade deadline .??
Gavin Lee
5:54
I think they're committed to the kids
If anything I actually think they may sell a few pieces
Not that they don't want to go for the playoffs, but the focus has obviously shifted to the next wave, with Sillinger at the core
Cbj4life
5:55
I think we will surprise some people this year with our kids
Gavin Lee
5:55
I don't disagree, there are some good things happening there. Which was hard to say not that long ago
Matt
5:56
Will ever see NHL Geographical again or ALL-STAR game in none NHL city?
Gavin Lee
5:56
I don't think the geographical all-star will ever return (well never say never I guess), and the non-NHL city probably isn't happening either.
I think the biggest possibility is just having it in Vegas every year, to be honest.
