He's been excellent the couple of games he played--he's an excellent player.
The risk was always the contract, but they didn't really pay a huge price for him

i assume William Eklund had an option to go back to the SHL rather than the AHL. Good move? How good is this guy?

Yeah, he had a European assignment clause. If they'd tried to send him to the minors he could have blocked it, but the decision to send him back was mutual anyway
I definitely think it's a good move for Eklund in particular
He probably could have played and been okay, but he'll get prime minutes in Sweden and really be able to focus on specific development things.

He has really, really high-end skill. If he's developed properly, he will be a weapon for a long time on the Sharks

But he's also the kind of talent that could be misused or have his confidence shaken by a lack of consistent playing time, I think

This season's schedule is crazy for teams like Boston, NYI and Columbus having played so many less games than some other teams, as many as 5 fewer. No games for a week twice and then they will almost have to play almost every night to try and catch up. Not a good look for the NHL with so many days off and then such a busy schedule to try and catch up.

I can see them letting him play out the year, but it's hard to see him coming back for the whole summer

But mostly it's because a team in Manitoba is not going to generate nearly as many clicks as one from Chicago or New York

Started reading up in Simon nemec for the next draft. Do you know anything about him and if so what do you see?

I've only watched Nemec at the WJC and this year's Worlds, but there's going to be someone who lands him lower than he should probably go

The pendulum has swung a bit too far for defenseman, I think, where flashy plays and elite skating with the puck have been valued so highly

What I saw from Nemec was a player who could read plays away from the puck at a much higher level than most young defensemen
Says a lot that his country put him in for Olympic qualifying games, too

Amazing to see Sam Bennett living up to his potential what changed. Calgary must be saying where were you with us? But he was a good playoff guy I think regular season not so much

I honestly don't know what to think about why it never seemed to work in Calgary. Part of it was moving him all around, and some of his success in Florida is because of a stronger supporting cast.
But there was always the talent, always the upside. It just never showed
I'm always happy when a fresh start actually works for a player, because honestly it doesn't most times.
