Welcome to another live chat!
Hope the holiday season is going well for everyone.
We'll get things started in just a few minutes.

With the trade of Taylor Hall now completed, 1st round pick plus prospects, do you see a 1st for Kreider and Toffoli if they are indeed dealt? Or could they be had for a 2nd or 3rd pick plus other players?
Gavin Lee
6:11
I don't think Toffoli will be able to draw a 1st, but at the deadline I think Kreider might be able to.
The return for all was very unspectacular in my books though, which might end up being a sign that the rental market is dwindling.
6:12
Hall was very clearly a rental-only player though, no one got a chance to negotiate any potential extension.

What’s the lastest on kovalchuk? McKenzie says nobody interest , and John Shannon says teams are, and they  might discuss over roster freeze with coach to see his role and fit .
Gavin Lee
6:12
McKenzie was very clear that he had only canvassed part of the league, and that there wasn't any interest there.
6:13
Shannon might have sources on other teams--or it might just be an agent "leaking" that there is interest.

Does Kolvachuk really have anything left in the can to give a competitive team? Shouldn't he go back to KHL and save his legacy?
Gavin Lee
6:13
I think there is something left there yes.
It will take the perfect situation to really get it out though, and I'm not even sure it's going to happen.
Saving his legacy? I don't think signing with another team really does anything to tarnish what he is, even if it doesn't work out again.
6:14
Lots of players bounce around at the end of their career.
He's still one of the best goal scorers the league has seen, and a legend in Russian hockey.
Kovalchuk in his prime was a thing to behold.

What's the main trade story line we can speculate on now that Hall is off the board?
Gavin Lee
6:15
Kreider will certainly become a story, but there are a few teams that will become VERY interesting to watch if they struggle--the Panthers and Lightning are those.
6:16
There might be an appetite to shake things up in Florida, if these teams don't start showing they can really compete in the East.

Hey Gavin! What is up with the ducks? Why can’t they win a game? They look like they’re playing well, but nada. You like where they’re headed (for 2020 and beyond), i mean? Thanks, and happy holidays!
Gavin Lee
6:18
They're certainly not a black hole, but there are changes needed in Anaheim too.
6:19
I've said many times in the past that I wasn't as high on some of the young players that everyone was pointing to, and while I think they still have a good group of prospects to turn to, there needs to be some change to the core of the group.
6:20
I know they tried that obviously with Perry/Kesler etc, but they could really use another young star to start building around.
Guys like Max Jones or Sam Steel are just never going to be that real star.
6:21
It's unfortunate because there is a lot of talent in Anaheim still.
And I've professed my love for John Gibson many times before.

Kapanen for Manson: Who declines? I'd say Anaheim, based on the fact that this sets back the Ducks re-tool by making a hole that isn't easily filled in the offseason.
Gavin Lee
6:22
I don't necessarily think it's insane, but just don't really see the fit from either side.
Not only would you have to make the money work, but Manson isn't really the kind of player that Kyle Dubas has obviously identified he wants.
Maybe that's a good thing, but I just am not sure it would work.
6:23
Kapanen in Anaheim would look good, sure, but he's still not a real fix for their forward group either.
D Trade
6:23
how would you grade the Faulk For Edmundson trade so far? Blues may have thought they were protecting themselves if 27 leaves for free agency, but I feel like Faulk and pietrangelo are such different players...
Gavin Lee
6:24
They are about as different as you could possibly be
6:25
I didn't like the trade when it happened really, because I didn't think the Faulk-Edmundson swap made them all that much better.
I'm also a fan of Dominik Bokk, so I thought they were giving up too much.
The extension I didn't like either, thought it was about three years too long for a player like Faulk.
D Trade
6:25
Also, I liked the trade. Edmundson was brutal during the playoffs
Gavin Lee
6:25
Don't get me wrong, Faulk is a good player.
6:26
I just don't think you've created much excess value.
