So if the Rangers flame out again this year in postseason and Panarin goes cold like last year, could they reasonably move on from him after the regular season he's had or does someone like Mika or Kreider (would have to waive NTCs) fall on chopping block instead if Drury wants to shake things up?

Now that would be a shocker
1:20
The Rangers have been shockingly mediocre at controlling shot quality at 5v5 this year. Something to watch out for in the postseason, for sure.
1:21
But Panarin is absolutely their MVP. His two-way numbers are great, every line he's touched has turned to gold. Defense pairings could use a refresh, though. Even when Lindgren's healthy, he's really struggling through it this year. I know it's unconventional not to have a shutdown guy, but Gustafsson and Fox have put up incredible possession numbers when paired together. I'd give that an extended run.

I think you lose any Panarin trade you make. Few better wingers than him. They still have enough runway left with him/this core that I think that would be premature. If you trade anyone for the sake of trading someone, it's Zibanejad... I think trading Kreider would simply be too deflating to the room. He's Rangers hockey embodied

What is it that the Rangers see in Rempe? At this point he only brings his fists and questionable hitting to the team. He doesn't help Goodrow offensively or Vesey on the 4th... doesn't it make sense to slot in Brodzinski? I'm not a Rempe fan.... thoughts?

I actually think he's been fine for a fourth-line guy when he's on the ice as a forechecker. Has been a part of a few decent scoring chances. Problem is he takes so many penalties it negates his value
He's averaging 5:36 per game. No everyday player on a Cup winner is gonna play that little. Make of that what you will

Agree on Gutafsson and Fox, also very surprised by Miller and Schneider as a pair. I think the issue is whether Laviolette would be willing to essentially make Trouba a third pair D man when he returns to keep those pairs together.
Josh Erickson
1:25
Yeah although I think it would be effective to deploy your "second" and "third" pairs equally in that case. Take the load off everyone equally

Any chance Armstrong moves Kyrou before his No Trade kicks in? What do you think his current value is?
Josh Erickson
1:26
I don't think he'll move this summer. There's certainly a chance he gets moved next summer before his NTC kicks in on 7/1 (contract is too expensive/long for a deadline move) but it all depends on how next season goes.
1:27
Don't think his value would be all that high given how much term is left on his contract. I think reports of his demise are greatly exaggerated, but he hasn't been worth the price tag this year either

Appreciate you taking the time to answer all over our questions. Have a great day. And I always enjoy your insight on everything hockey.

Thank you!
I'll get a few more in here before the 60 minute buzzer.

And last question...  thoughts on Rangers chances in their quest for Lord Stanley?

best guess as to outcome of Coyotes mess ?
Josh Erickson
1:29
Used to be a Yotes truther but this has just gone too far. Too many 11th hour broken promises. I think they're in SLC in 2025-26, I'd give that a 65/35 chance

Can James Stefan fill his father's shoes? Or will he be a bust too?
Josh Erickson

Hahahaha. That was fun to see yesterday

Always tough to judge UDFAs. But he's been relatively consistent ever since he was passed over in his first draft year, and his breakout this year isn't too much higher than what he showed in 21-22 and 22-23. That's generally a good sign. I think he makes it into the show at some point, which is all you can ask for!

Thanks all. Hopefully I'll have the time to fire up another one of these next week – at a similarly reasonable time, per reader requests :)
