I wrote it about a month ago, but I thought they had a chance to go from being a good team the next 5-10 years, to being one of the best teams in the league for the next 5-10 years at this deadline
By selling, instead of extending anyone

Do you think KK was traded out of Minny to create a shorter path for Jesper Wallstedt to attempt to walk in next year as Hunter Jones no Dereck Barbeau seem like a few years away…

I think honestly it was about putting the best team on the ice this season, and they think Middleton can help that
It's nice that they have Wallstedt, but if they think he's ready to take over the starting job next season, they're mistaken.

What are you thoughts on Byfield? I know he is 19 but Lucas Raymond looks much better. Did the Kings screw up their pick?

Pretty much feel the same now that I did then.

If Byfield reaches anywhere near his ceiling, you have one of the most valuable players in the league.
Raymond was always going to score at the NHL level, and he'll keep doing that
But he won't completely take over a game like Byfield could

Let's just remember that even though Raymond is playing well, being given huge offensive deployment and top linemates--the Red Wings are still only a +1 with him on the ice

He's great, but he can't do it alone. If Byfield reached his ceiling, he could really elevate weaker linemates
Does he get there? Probably not, prospects rarely actually do
But it was worth a shot
