What would the leafs have to give up for slavin or pesce?
Gavin Lee
6:40
By all accounts Slavin is off the table.
Pesce on the other hand might be available, but it will take a big ask.
Sounds like Kapanen is off the table for the Maple Leafs, so you start putting together pieces like Liljegren and Johnsson maybe? It's not a perfect fit to be honest, I wrote something along those lines yesterday.
6:41
Carolina wants help now, but the Maple Leafs don't want to break up their forward group.
Toronto fits better with Los Angeles, for instance, who could take on futures instead.

Because Boston missed on those picks and they have also not been hitting on a lot of other 1sts would they consider changing their evaluation of amateur talent? I have heard that they have their own unique system where they often go for guys that others have 2nd or 3rd round evaluation on. Or am i just misinformed?
Gavin Lee
6:42
Trent Frederic is the player who causes this story, whether it's true or not. Many had him nowhere near the first round.
6:43
But to say the Bruins have missed on their first rounders is crazy. Going back--Urho Vaakanainen, Charlie McAvoy and David Pastrnak have all been in the last few seasons.
6:44
All of them have also been pick 14 or later too. They've done an excellent job.
Jeff Carter
6:45
Can I be sold on any town other than LA. Afterall, next year I would only make $3 million and the $2 million each of the next 2 seasons. Hardly seems worth leaving my family for, especially since I have made $69 million in my career and I am not Jack Johnson.
Gavin Lee
6:45
It'll be just that. Carter needs to be sold.
6:46
There are a lot of nice cities out there though.
Pitt Pete
6:46
Do you think the Penguins can land Brayden Schenn and Michael Ferland?
Gavin Lee
6:46
Both? Maybe not both.
Pitt Pete
6:46
Schenn for Maata
Ferland for Brassrd and Jarry
Gavin Lee
6:46
Too much for Ferland, and too little for Schenn.

Is Malcolm Subban the goalie of the future in Vegas? I know that he is ill now, but why had he played so little before?
Gavin Lee
6:47
When is the future? Fleury has a $21MM extension that kicks in next year.
Subban is a backup for now. They'll deal with the starter role in a few years.
Elwood
6:48
Would you be surprised if the Avs did nothing of note at the deadline?
Gavin Lee
6:48
I wouldn't really, no. I think they're a nice spot for some of the rumored available players, but they also very much know that another wave is coming
It doesn't have to be this year if the prices aren't right.
6:49
(Especially if MacKinnon's foot is seriously injured..)
Charles
6:49
Is Delia the Blackhawks starting goalie next year?
Gavin Lee
6:49
Probably in tandem with someone.
Charles
6:50
How long can we expect Fleury to be starting and playing at an all-star level? Is 3 more years unrealistic?
Gavin Lee
6:50
I'm not really convinced he's playing at an all-star level this season, but I guess I'm alone in that.
6:51
I didn't like the extension when they gave it to him, I like it less now.
Someone who plays too much NHL19
6:52
What is caproom actually worth? For example, when trade are made with salary retained, on average, what is that worth (i.e., one team retains 1 million for 3 years what is that in a bubble worth, a 1st?)?
Gavin Lee
6:52
It's entirely contingent on who you're trading with, and what their current situation is.
6:54
If you're the Pittsburgh Penguins, and you're gunning for your third Stanley Cup in a row, and someone offers to take $2MM off of Derick Brassard? You give up a roster player and another pick.
Charles
6:55
Can the Coyotes hang on and make the playoffs? If so, will Kuemper take over as their starter next year when Raanta is back?
Gavin Lee
6:55
He won't take over as the starter, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if he is traded to a team who wants to try him as a starter.
Raanta is the real deal, but Hill is coming too.
6:56
Can they hang on? It's going to be tough, their depth is stretched razor thin
Charles
6:56
Is Lehner considered the long term starter for the Isles, or is Sorokin still the hope?
Gavin Lee
6:57
Lamoriello loves having one goaltender, and I'll wait to see a big check laid out in front of Lehner before I believe he's the guy.
He's been incredible, don't get me wrong.
