But, say they can't come to an agreement and Toronto actually considers moving him (which I still so highly doubt). Then sure, you have to think about going hard after another top free agent, Panarin or whoever.
Toronto is built to contend right now.
Kk/Hughes
6:21
Are you surprised by KK’s or Hughes’ performance in the worlds?
Gavin Lee
6:22
Kakko's performance is more surprising, just because of how he doesn't look hesitant at all.
I wonder if he'd be playing this well if the Finns had more NHL stars on the group.
6:23
He knows all of his teammates and knows he's better than most of them.
For Hughes, I don't think a 17-year old (18 now I guess) falling into the background should be any cause for concern.
6:24
He'll be an excellent NHL player in year one, but the real upside for him is when he's 22-25.
Certainly makes the draft more interesting though doesn't it!
Binnington
6:25
What do you think my next contract looks like? Am I a flash in the pan like Hammond?
Gavin Lee
6:25
Boy, good question.
Don't think he's a flash in the pan exactly, it's not the first time Binnington has played out of his mind for a long stretch.
He did this same thing in junior with Owen Sound. He was unbeatable.
6:26
But, he does look mortal in the playoffs.
I am worried that the Blues might hand him a little bit too much, too soon.
I wrote about the Allen extension when they gave it to him, and thought it was too aggressive.
6:27
I think I would go shorter with Binnington, even if it risks free agency. Can't get burned by a deal like that again.
Connor
6:28
Think my bruins win the cup this year?🐻🏒🥅
Gavin Lee
6:28
See answer 1!
They've got a great chance.

HEY
Gavin Lee

hi
Elwood
6:34
Makar burnt a year on his entry deal right?
Gavin Lee
6:34
He did. Since he's 20 already, just signing it for the 2018-19 season burned the first year--he didn't even need to play a game
6:36
He is also eligible for the expansion draft though, because he did play
Podcasts
6:36
Are there any sports podcasts that you love? I just listened to the Chiclets one with Adam Oates. Hearing about what he does now was awesome.
Gavin Lee
6:36
None that I'd say I love. There are so many that I listen to for work, they all kind of drag into each other.
6:37
The Chiclets guys certainly get stories that no one else does.
Brian
6:41
Gavin, what did the avs do to the hockey gods to lose 2 draft lotteries in 3 years?? Who do they take at 4? If that player is not ready to play next year do you see them trading that pick? Thanks
Gavin Lee
6:42
Joe Sakic was asked about potentially trading the pick at his year-end press conference and he was coy about the idea. I don't think it would be entirely off limits, but trading top picks is still relatively rare.
I don't think they're upset about picking at 4 given their season though. That's still an incredible value for a pick that they probably though would be in the back half of the draft when they made the deal.
Who do they pick? That depends entirely on who the Blackhawks take at #3.
6:43
If Bowen Byram is still there, I can't see them passing up a chance to have a Girard-Makar-Byram blue line. But they also might think one of the forwards is the best value.
Shortys
6:43
Are there any smaller sized forwards or defenseman that we should be on the lookout for in the draft?
Gavin Lee
6:43
Cole Caufield!
6:44
Instant offense in a 5'7" frame
He's a tricky one to pin down in terms of draft projection. All it takes is one team that believes he'll be the next Alex DeBrincat and takes him in the top-10
But he could also fall if people don't trust the production
6:45
He probably won't, but I seriously think he could play on an NHL powerplay this season.

Hey Gavin, any rumors on when/what the Seattle team will be named?
