What does Colorado do with all their cap space free agency, trades or both ?
Gavin Lee
6:54
I would think more free agency than trades
Don't be surprised if you here them connected to the very top names
Dan
6:55
What can that caps do with Niskenan?
Gavin Lee
6:56
He's obviously one that may be a cap casualty, but it would be easy to move him. You might not get a ton back, but there will be teams ready to add a vet like him who can still play.
Fred
6:57
Do you think Mats Zucc. resigns with Dallas ?
Gavin Lee
6:57
Such a tough one because of the draft pick condition on him.
If they re-sign him, a 3rd becomes a 1st.
If they can get him at a good number, I know they absolutely fell in love with him down there.
But that's just another piece that has to be considered.

What would you say is fair value for a Backstom and Holtby extension this summer?
Gavin Lee
6:59
I'm not sure why Holtby wouldn't think he deserves to be in the upper echelon of goaltenders. You're probably looking at a long-term deal that puts him ahead of Rask and Fleury ($7MM).
7:00
He won't get Price money ($10.5MM) but I'm not sure anyone will for a little while (even Bobrovsky)
7:02
Backstrom, not sure how you can expect him to take a pay cut from the $6.7MM he is currently doing. It probably won't be a 7 or 8 year deal, but a 29-year old Couture signed an 8x8 last summer.
7:03
Backstrom is two years older but scored more in each of the last six seasons than Couture ever has
Blueshirts
7:04
Rangers pick up a bad contract or do a bad for bad type deal ?  any other deals that would push forward the rebuild ?
Gavin Lee
7:04
They have plenty of trade fodder to keep the rebuild going.
Namestnikov, Kreider, Vesey, Fast are all rentals this year
7:05
They have the room to take on a bad contract, but I would be wary of it. These entry-level deals aren't going to last forever
goaltenders
7:05
Could the Kings move Jack Campbell or Cal Peterson do they have value?
Gavin Lee
7:06
Both would have value, but goaltenders rarely bring back what you would hope for.
Probably not worth it at this point.
Sox
7:06
Will bruins make any trades , like backes , krejci . To old and big cap hits .
Gavin Lee
7:07
I'm not sure how you can be upset with 73 points from Krejci
He was dynamite in the playoffs too
Sure, if they can get rid of Backes they would.
But it'll be tough

7:07
Any of the young studs on the Charlotte Checkers make the big squad next year?  Is Bean still a year away?
Gavin Lee
7:08
He could hang in the NHL right now, but it all depends on what the Hurricanes do with the group right now.
If he's going to be the 7th defenseman, then keep him down.
7:09
As for others who will make it, I imagine Martin Necas has the inside track, and Aleksi Saarela should have a good shot too
7:10
Carolina has an interesting offseason, because their success might make them rush
But there is lots more talent coming. They don't need to
mike.nowo
7:10
Can and should Alex Nedeljkovic be the backup in Carolina rather than McElhinney?
Gavin Lee
7:10
I would give it to him, yes. But we'll see what they do. They said they want to bring both back
Pierre Dorion
7:10
What do I need to do this offseason to at least get my team somewhat back on track?
Gavin Lee
7:10
I actually think they're already somewhat back on track
7:11
There's nothing you can do about the trade returns now.
So looking forward they have lots of good young players and tons of opportunity.
The question becomes (perhaps it always was) whether they'll be able to retain any of them when the time comes
