It actually sounds like they're not huge on trading him at this point, though I doubt they can afford to give him a qualifying offer.
That would mean they need to negotiate a different contract.

The contract minutia is why people are talking NBA so much, when will the NHL learn from the other leagues? NHL has by far the best product, but the process and people are garbage!
