Who out west do you think improved the most and who took a step back? Seems like it just keeps getting tougher
Gavin Lee
6:51
There's a case to be made that the Flames improved their team quite a bit for next season, but the Blues likely take the cake so far.
6:52
O'Reilly is a really nice add for them, and they actually may get a positive impact from moving on from Sobotka and Berglund
I'm not sure how much I like the Perron and Bozak signings, but they are certainly experienced offensive pieces.

Any cool near deal rumors that fell apart at the draft?
Gavin Lee
6:53
The biggest one was likely the Pacioretty-to-LA one, which included a potential extension and ended with him changing agents during the draft.
I don't think we'll ever get confirmation on what exactly went down, but it definitely provided some fireworks--especially given the widespread reporting that a deal was sending him to San Jose right when all of it was happening.

What Pittsburgh Penguins are doing
Gavin Lee
6:55
They got their guy in Jack Johnson, but I wouldn't be surprised if something else is cooking for Jim Rutherford. Things often go quiet from his side right before he makes a move, and though the Torts battle was exciting, there has been little talk.
John Ryan
6:56
How bad is the spezza contract and can it be moved for anything useful?
Gavin Lee
6:56
It can't be moved for anything useful, no. But there is a good chance he doesn't look nearly as bad with Montgomery as coach this season.
6:57
It's also just one year, meaning it might hurt at the moment but doesn't cause any lasting damage.
John Ryan
6:57
Who is the worst contract in hockey? Ryan is looking really bad but can it be packaged with Karlsson to help offset a prospect or two?
Gavin Lee
6:57
Worst in hockey? Maybe Seabrook's.
6:58
Eriksson is really bad, Weber's looks worse every time he misses a game (though the cap recapture stuff makes it much more complicated)
John Ryan
6:59
What kind of year do you see ilya have after coming back to the nhl?
Gavin Lee
6:59
I expect a pretty good season actually.
7:00
Anyone who has watched him can see that there is still obviously talent there, and he wasn't simply a physical specimen in the NHL. His hockey IQ and awareness is really high as well, and I believe it'll help him still put up numbers.

what are the Wild doing?
Gavin Lee
7:01
A lot comes down to the negotiations with Zucker and Dumba, who both filed for arbitration today.
There has been some chatter about trading some of the big names, but it died down the last few weeks.
I do wonder if Fenton has learned the blockbuster ways from Poile over the years, and is working up to something.

I imagine these are for Karlsson.
That Tampa package takes it for me, hands down.

Does vegas make any moves if they don't get Karlsson or do they stand pat. And what do you think of the stasny deal
Gavin Lee
7:02
Stastny deal is expensive, but it's a great one for Vegas. Cap hit didn't really matter, and to keep it to three years was key
7:03
They'll certainly be involved in more this offseason. Every single name you hear in trade I bet you hear Vegas linked.
It's like people are reading this...multiple reports about Callahan being the piece to the Rangers if they get involved.

Yes but those offers have no money leaving the teams which is needed
Gavin Lee
7:04
^^ Not wrong.

7:04
Are the Preds going sign any FA’s or make my trades this off season?
Gavin Lee
7:05
There isn't a lot left on the free agent market, and the Predators don't have a ton of weaknesses.
I do expect them to add another defenseman at some point, but probably not an impact one.
Andre
7:06
How is Detroit’s offense going to look with the log jam they created?
Gavin Lee
7:06
Honestly nothing the Red Wings do really makes sense to me the last few years.
I have no answers for how they're going to look this season.
Pete
7:07
Are the Isles in on Hanifan ? What defenseman do you see them getting and will they please trade Bailey and Nelson for a bag of pucks.
Gavin Lee
7:07
Hanifin was already traded to the Flames, and they won't be letting him go anytime soon I would imagine.
