I doubt it at this point, but it's definitely a possibility if they don't want to pay him next summer.
7:36
Landing Tavares probably made the Maple Leafs revisit basically all of their internal projections.

7:36
If Artem Anisimov was dealt would Charlie Coyle be a potential option at 3C for the Hawks? He is young and brings the physicality with a little bit of offensive upside and a net-front presence.
Gavin Lee
7:37
I've long though Coyle is a fine option in the middle, but there is some who doubt he can handle the position on a full-time basis.
7:38
He'd be a great fit in Chicago, but not sure they'd want to part with the assets to land him.

Yes the NHL is getting smaller but is there such a thing as too small? Almost all of the Blackhawks draft picks were under 6 feet tall this year. Will this team get bullied when half the roster is under 6 foot. Kane, DeBrincat, Hinostroza, Jokiharju, Boquist, Beaudin, Sikura, etc are all pieces of the future and are all under 6 feet tall.
Gavin Lee

There's not a lot of bullying you can do in the NHL at this point, but I do think the pendulum will swing back somewhat in coming years.
The whole undersized thing was that they were being overlooked and undervalued.
That has corrected itself almost entirely.
7:40
At some point, it may swing past that correction to the point where size (reach, especially) is now undervalued.
No one in Chicago should be complaining about Jokiharju or Boqvist though.
Leafs for 2019
7:41
Our top 6 is loaded but is our bottom 6 (outside of Kadri) too shallow?
Gavin Lee
7:41
I'd say Kapanen, Johnsson and Brown are pretty good bottom six pieces.
The fourth line in Toronto is almost meaningless, given the 55 minutes the top three centers should log.
Just need penalty killing down there.
Gavin the GM
7:42
Positional needs aside. If you are a GM and could pick one top FA and one "value" FA, that's left, who would they be
Gavin Lee
7:43
I mean I'm not sure there really are any top free agents left. I guess Rick Nash would have to be my pick there, though he may not even play.
For value, I really think Dan Hamhuis can still help a team.
7:44
He's not young anymore, but he's still a really good defensive option.
Small players
7:45
Do smaller players make up for a lack of reach with longer sticks? I'm thinking guys like DeBrincat and Gaudreau seem to have longer sticks.
Gavin Lee
7:45
I think you need to check out Gaudreau's stick again. Johnny uses a 55 intermediate.
7:46
Quickness definitely makes up for reach sometimes, but there is still a place for bigger players on the penalty kill and even in the offensive zone.
7:47
Think of Rick Nash's puck protection for instance, and how he can reach around players and goalies.
Alright guys, I'm going to shut it down.
We'll do this every week again!

Thanks so much for all the questions, and keep an eye on the site for the latest.
