If talks don't progress with Faulk, I'd imagine he's the one to go. But I've thought that for quite some time and he's still a Hurricane.

The knights are over the cap who goes?
Gavin Lee
6:34
They could actually work a little magic and not need to send anyone out, though it would really strain their flexibility throughout the year and put them at risk of injuries derailing the year.
6:35
If I was to guess on someone to go, it's probably Reaves, though I wouldn't rule out one of the big boys (Stastny, Pacioretty) still coming up in talks.

Gavin!  When do you see some of the other bigger UFA names signing?  And do the Ducks sign any of them?  If not, who might they target?
Gavin Lee
6:37
The only reason I can think of why Jake Gardiner hasn't signed is that he's waiting for the Maple Leafs to resolve the Mitch Marner situation to give them one last shot.
In terms of the Ducks though, don't think they would add any of the top names left. A guy like Dzingel doesn't really do much for them where they are now.
6:38
Remember that it's Eakins coming in, with familiarity with the Gulls.
Lots of playing time for young kids I would imagine.

Speaking of the Ducks, would love your input on the Sutter hire and what he might mean for the success of the team?  Seems to bring positive outcomes wherever he goes..
Gavin Lee
6:38
I think his addition is probably a positive one, but one that has already been way overblown.
6:39
Don't think he's coming in to oversee everything Eakins does.

Buffalo gets: Bo Horvat, Vancouver gets Risto. Who says no?
Gavin Lee
6:39
Vancouver.
Horvat is their next captain, I would think.
John Mozeliak

If the Blues resign Pat Maroon to a 2yr deal around a 3-4mil aav who is most likely traded or bought out?
Gavin Lee
6:40
If he's going back to the Blues I don't think they will pay him that much.
Fabbri looks like the obvious odd man out though in almost any scenario

Worst move and best move in Free agency this year as far as contracts go
Gavin Lee
6:40
I mean Kevin Labanc is the best contract hands down
6:41
But in terms of UFAs? I love the no-risk move for New Jersey with Simmonds.
Keeping Pavelski to just three years is excellent as well.
Some of those bonus or minimum contracts are nice. Perry, Sekera, Spezza, etc
6:42
Big blunders? Don't like the Myers, Zuccarello, Tanev, Stralman, Bobrovsky deals
Panarin I think is probably eventually going to be a big problem, but not next year.
Call it
6:43
Biggest surprise and biggest disappointments this year as far as teams go.
Gavin Lee
6:43
Biggest surprise, the Hurricanes win the Metro.
6:44
Biggest disappointment, the Panthers still finish fifth in the Atlantic
(these are stupid early predictions, don't hold me to them)
offer it up
6:45
Why have we not seen an offer sheet on Mitch Marner yet? If you have the cap space what is there to lose by doing it?
Gavin Lee
6:45
I mean I think the only thing that needs to be remembered here is that Marner, or any other RFA, needs to sign the offer sheet.
It's not that you just throw it out and there is "no risk"
It's on the player to seek out and sign those deals a lot of the time.

In regards to Ottawa... it’s such a strange feeling to be so confident that a casual fan could be doing a better job running the franchise. Am I wrong to feel that way...?
Gavin Lee
6:46
Yes, because there are a lot of people who are trying their best and know a lot more about the inner workings of the Ottawa Senators organization than any of us.
6:47
There could literally be countless factors that have never been publicized.
That's why I say I don't understand moves, more often than I say they were terrible moves.

Surprised bruins didn’t do much??
Gavin Lee
6:48
Not really, no.
Good team, lots of internal things to do.
