That's a lot of East. Hmm, maybe drop a couple of those.
But still, I don't think the Blues are guaranteed contenders at this point.
6:30
I do think they've jumped ahead of the Sharks, Ducks, and Wild though, which is a big step

Pittsburgh Penguins are doing
Gavin Lee
6:30
They just re-signed Oleksiak, if you hadn't seen.
6:31
Kind of a hefty salary for a guy that was almost out of the NHL at one point.
They don't have much room left (almost none in fact) but I would imagine they still have another card up their sleeves this summer.
Honestly I haven't loved their summer though.

Time for Bergevin to be relieved of his duties?  Sergachev for Drouin      Subban for Webber (and his contract).    Galchenyuk for Domi.        Preparing to be fleeced for Max Patches
Gavin Lee
6:32
Let's just hold off on the Pacioretty takes until something actually gets done.
But I have never been a defender of the Sergachev or Subban moves.
6:33
My biggest problem with the Drouin addition wasn't that he isn't a good player--he is an exceptional player. It's just that they immediately signed him to a deal that took away all excess value
Even if he performs like everyone had hoped, his deal is paying him about market value
6:34
Sergachev meanwhile is giving the Lightning NHL minutes on an ELC.
I guess I didn't answer the question--Yes.

why wouldn't the avs take on bobby ryan to get karlson to move to increase their chance at Jack Hughes next year?
Gavin Lee
6:35
Let's all remember that even without Karlsson, the chances of Ottawa picking first overall right now are something like 5%. Even if they come last they only have a ~20% chance at first overall, and assuming we can predict who comes last is foolish.
6:36
Injuries can derail a season, firesale at the deadline, huge underperformance.
Maybe Thomas Chabot turns into a Norris candidate, or Mark Stone scores 40 goals.
6:37
Getting Karlsson should be about bringing in one of the best players in the world, not about anything else.

Hey Gavin!  Why don't the Ducks seemingly have a back up plan for Kesler?  If he sits out of some, or all, of the upcoming season, who fills his seat?  Is Steel ready?  Or can Terry play pivot?
Gavin Lee
6:39
Terry does have some experience playing center, but I'm not sure that's exactly how you want to integrate him into the NHL.
Remember they do have Adam Henrique, who could be a fine second line center, and even Rickard Rakell with experience there (obviously not ideal either).
6:40
Personally I don't think Steel is ready, but there are some who might.
I just don't think the Ducks are as worried about there forward group as everyone else always is.
They make moves in-season and rely on their defense to keep them in the running.
6:41
That's not a bad way to play, especially when you have an excellent group on the blue line an a near-elite goaltender.
Dan
6:42
Also, what do you think of the rumors of Pacioretty going to the Ducks?  Can the Ducks afford him now, and long term?  And what would the Ducks have to give up to get him?  Thanks for the chats!
Gavin Lee
6:42
The short answer is they could afford him now if Kesler is headed for LTIR, but it would make things very tricky.
6:43
They still have some big contracts to negotiate this summer, and signing Pacioretty long term would make things really complicated.
If they want to keep Henrique and Silfverberg, there's probably not room for Pacioretty

6:44
After signing all those gritty players, will the Canucks rebuild align on time?   Or will cap issues crush them in the three years it’ll take for them to truly compete?
Gavin Lee
6:44
I have zero idea why they are signing those players, other than the fact that Benning has made it clear they wouldn't just hand jobs to their young players
Want to make them work for it, not become complacent.
6:45
I just keep looking at $12MM for Loui Eriksson, Antoine Roussel and Jay Beagle and wondering what went wrong though.

6:46
What is the realistic ceiling for the Sharks this year?
Gavin Lee
6:46
It's very realistic to think they could compete for the Cup. Is it probable, maybe not.
But the core is still there and producing, and they added Kane for a whole year.
It's three or four years from now that I'd really be worried about in San Jose
6:47
When they're committed to something like $35MM to a bunch of players in their mid thirties.
