They're going to be in the race, they know that.
Rutherford truly believes having a full offseason will help them, and players like Sprong and Aston-Reese as you say could have a big effect.
For what I would have done, it starts with not signing Jack Johnson to that contract.
7:20
I think Johnson is a fine player, and I get that they wanted to keep the cap hit relatively low
But that is a buyout candidate if I've ever seen one.
7:21
I think they overpaid for what Oleksiak, Rust and Sheahan bring too. Not by a lot, but just creeping up ever so much
7:22
Moves like this are why Sheary had to be dealt for pennies.
He was a little overpaid, and Hunwick didn't need to be signed.

Is Chayka done with the ‘yotes  offseason or does he have somemore cards to play?
Gavin Lee
7:22
Never rule him out.
7:23
He just traded for Marcus Kruger, told Brad Richardson that there likely wasn't room for him, signed him anyway at a discount and then flipped Kruger back to Chicago.
He's not doing things by the book, but I like what he's building in Arizona

7:23
Does Strome, Dvorak, or Galchenyuk move to wing for the Coyotes?
Gavin Lee
7:24
Well one of them definitely does, and for me it would be Galchenyuk.
I want him on with Clayton Keller, and I want them together for a while.
7:25
Dvorak or Stepan in the middle, and see what they can do
McKenny
7:25
Do either Darling or Mrazek turn into solid #1 guys or is Carolina stuck with a couple of 2A guys for now?
Gavin Lee
7:25
I'm sorry to tell you that they may not even be 2A guys..
7:26
Here's the thing. They both can stop the puck. They've done it before.
But neither of them is going to "turn into" anything.
You might get an excellent season out of one or both, or you might get an .890 save percentage out of one or both
7:27
Neither is going to become a solid #1 that you can rely on.
Speaking of Carolina
7:27
since we are talking canes, where’d Faulk end up?
Gavin Lee
7:28
Well he hasn't gone anywhere just yet.
But I just can't think of a better fit for him than Toronto. I know that's not a hot take
7:29
Edmonton would also like another puck mover

7:30
The Rangers aren't going to keep all of Namestikov, Hayes, Spooner, and Vesey are they?
Gavin Lee
7:30
Long-term? No.
For now? why not?
They can move them during the season if they get the right offer
Speaking of Carolina
7:31
Thoughts on Faulk for Poolparty in Edmonton.
Gavin Lee
7:31
I was about to write that I doubt Edmonton would give up on a top pick so quickly but...
7:32
Honestly I have a hard time believing they'd move him.
Steve
7:32
what team right now is acting like a contender/buyer, but should be looking to be more of a seller?
Gavin Lee
7:33
It's probably Montreal, but I'm not sure what they'd sell exactly.
7:34
There seems to be a refusal to really rebuild, but I can't see a lot of upside on that roster right now.
Minnesota maybe too.
They're trying to get "over the hump" but might really struggle in the next few years.
7:35
Alright folks, I'm heading out for the night.
Another great chat!
