Elliotte Friedman the real hockey man
I guess no answer to Elliotte Friedman
Gavin Lee
6:49
I'm not really sure what this means.
But yes, Elliotte Friedman is a man and involved with hockey.
He is real.

This may be wishful thinking but could Marleau and Thornton potentially sign with Dallas to reunite with Pavelski?
Gavin Lee
6:50
Imagine that.
No, Thornton will be playing for San Jose next season.
Marleau isn't quite as clear, but I would still put my money on him being in San Jose over Dallas.

I think I speak for all hockey fans when I ask who is Jimmy Schuldt and why does the front page of Cap Friendly list his previous cap over $6M???  Thanks!
Gavin Lee
6:51
Haha
6:52
So something that CapFriendly discovered for the hockey community last season is that those college players who sign their entry-level deal at the very end of the year actually end up having a much bigger cap hit because of the relatively small amount of season left to spread it over.
The same way that William Nylander's cap hit was much higher this year because he didn't sign until the end of November, Schuldt's entry-level deal gave him a huge hit.
6:54
As for who Schuldt is, he was an exceptional two-way defenseman from St. Cloud State. He has a good shot at being on the Golden Knights opening day roster next season.
He was one of, if not the very best college free agent available.

This is how you spell Connor Clifton hockey boy
Gavin Lee
6:55
Yep.
Jim Rutherford
6:55
Who am I most likely to trade for cap space of all the more rumored candidates - Bjugstad, Rust, Gudbranson, or someone else (and who then)? Or is it just the best offer for any of them?
Gavin Lee
6:55
Yeah I don't think Gudbranson is going anywhere.
6:56
He played well for the Penguins after the trade, as maligned as he is.
I would probably put my money on Bjugstad, but as you say it will probably be the one with the best offer.

6:57
Do you think the Penguins can or will move Jack Johnson or Erik Gubranson before the season starts?
Gavin Lee
6:57
Here's another one like this.
Don't think they will move Gudbranson, they have at least tried to move Johnson--but that was before moving Maatta
I think it'll be a forward that goes.

Do you foresee a day where the sheer number of contracts exceed the cap? I get that there are teams with cap room, but eventually it seems the current model will break. What if no Vegas or Seattle as well? Thoughts...
Gavin Lee
6:58
I'm not sure what you mean, with the sheer number of contracts.
6:59
I'm not really sure about the second part either actually. What do you mean about Vegas and Seattle?
Mike D
7:00
Do the 🦆 s have more than 4 nhl defenseman on the roster?
Gavin Lee
7:00
That comes up as a small square for me, but luckily google tells me you put a duck emoji.
7:01
They do! They signed Michael Del Zotto the other day
Brendan Guhle can hang at that level too.
Jacob Larsson, Josh Mahura, Jani Hakanpaa
Chris Wideman even!
Lots of options actually.
(Not a lot of good ones)

think Sens sign Chabot White long term? and think Melnyk gonna continue to seel off assets when they need to be paid?
Gavin Lee
7:02
Long term as in eight years? Don't think it's happening, from either side.
Can they keep assets? I wouldn't bet on it at this point.
I don't know what to say, they've completely stripped down their salary number so maybe they're saving for the future
