Oh yeah all the expansion guys
Nashville, Columbus, Minnesota, Florida, Arizona etc etc
Boy what a summer brain
6:35
Yeah Nashville might be the best bet in that group
Ken
6:36
Most disappointing summer? L.A.?
Gavin Lee
6:36
Can't be that disappointing, they're just rebuilding.
You didn't want to add any salary right now
They locked up Petersen to a nice inexpensive deal, hopefully Kempe gets done at some point.
Ken
6:36
Was thinking they should be dumping salary
Gavin Lee
6:37
Sure, but that doesn't need to happen at any given time really.
If they can't get the value for those players right now it doesn't matter if they start the year with them.

Gavin, Seattle has a gm! Ron Francis a good pick? Now the fun starts with naming the team!
Gavin Lee
6:38
Francis is definitely an interesting pick. He's never been as bold as McPhee, but I'm not sure you'll see the same trigger finger with that franchise anyway because of the ownership.
Their success will be a slow burn, if his prior experience is anything to go off of.
Lots of draft and develop, draft and develop.
6:39
I'm not sure if he's the right pick or not at this point.
Expansion is so tough (normally).
Sam
6:39
How much have GMs considered the upcoming expansion draft with there acquisitions this offseason?
Gavin Lee
6:40
It's certainly there, though I think many of them have realized that worrying too much about it can leave you in an even worse spot.
I mean again, losing your eighth most valuable forward isn't going to cripple your team, even if it is a solid prospect or young player.
6:41
Defensively it certainly has to be considered more.

Gavin!  Talk to me about the Ducks future.  You optimistic?  This season?  Next 5?
Gavin Lee
6:42
For a Cup run, or playoffs, or?
Don't think they'll be in that playoff hunt this year, just don't see enough talent on the NHL roster.
6:43
(all of this comes with the John Gibson caveat--he's exceptional and could drag the Ottawa Senators to a playoff run in the right circumstances)
Next five, they'll certainly be competing.
6:44
Lots of talent coming up, even if I am not as high on this first wave--Steel/Comtois/Jones--as some.
I like Lundestrom a lot, and Zegras was one of my steals of the draft.
Mike
6:45
Could Jake Voracek be moved
Gavin Lee
6:45
I'm sure eventually yes, but don't think it would be now.
Nick
6:45
Really hoping Vegas keeps Gusev. Any news on him recently? Opinions on keeping him?
Kieran
6:45
Is Gusev really a player people should be raving about?
Is Marner a Leaf this time next year?
Gavin Lee
6:46
The last thing I saw on Gusev was that the trade offers aren't high enough at this point. Something like a second and a prospect.
My thoughts on him as a player? He's extremely talented, but is also totally unproven. There's more to the NHL than offensive skills, and by that I don't even mean just physical attributes. He needs to find a coach that will work with him, allow some warts but let him be creative.
There is zero guarantee he finds that situation.
6:47
That's why it's so hard to give up a big package and also hand out a real money contract.
6:48
Remember that however long he is signed for, he'll be a UFA afterwards.
So would you give up a prime prospect and $4MM in cap space for just the next two years of a player you've never seen practice?
It's just a tough situation.
As for Marner--short answer yes.
