Though he had a bad year.

It’s a good time to be a hockey fan, lots of good exciting young players... should we expect the league to progress more toward the other sports from a popularity perspective?
Gavin Lee
6:15
I very much doubt they'll ever really catch the other big three.
But they're finding a way to be more relevant to their interested demographic around the world.
6:16
The NHL and certain organizations in particular are making real progress in China, and the investment they've made in Esports should help NHL popularity in other parts of the world.
It's probably never going to be a huge draw in lots of the United States.
6:17
But we've seen real growth in the US development system over the past few decades, and various markets are thriving.
Vegas is off to a great start, but we'll have to see if Seattle can achieve the same.

Are you hearing anything about J. Faulk or Skinner?
Gavin Lee
6:18
The Hurricanes have been a closed book for a while.
6:19
I do think Skinner will be moved at some point this summer, but not sure when or where to.

6:19
When do you see expansion happening? Do you think the existing teams will figure out how to protect the right players this time?
Gavin Lee
6:19
The plan is to have the Seattle building ready to start play for the 2020-21 season.
6:20
There is still a lot that could go wrong to delay that, but it's still the timeline at the moment.
I still don't think teams really were forced to expose too many players in the last expansion draft.
It was the trades the teams made that helped Vegas so much.
6:21
But honestly, no one saw 43 goals coming from William Karlsson
Or a legitimate NHL season coming from Deryk Engelland.

Do you think Tatar will bounce back with Vegas?
Gavin Lee
6:22
He'll be better than he looked for them down the stretch sure, but I never liked that trade for them one bit.
I don't think he's a real replacement for Neal/Perron, though he'll be asked to take some of that role

6:22
Why is it taking so long for Wilson to resign with the Capitals?
Gavin Lee
6:22
I don't think there is much rush.
6:23
That deal will happen, I'd be shocked if he misses any training camp
EJ
6:23
Seguin to Carolina for Skinner, Faulk, prospect, and pick (level/rd to depend on whether or not Seguin signs extension). Too far out there or worthy of consideration?
Gavin Lee
6:23
Not going to happen.
Unless he tells them he won't sign
And if he does, it won't be for expiring deals
Walter t
6:24
I agree. I think some teams really over thought the process and out smartted themselves trying to get Vegas to avoid specific players. Just accept that you'll lose one player you like and move on.

This ^^
Bucs Fan
6:24
Pens have a logjam at Center, a move has to be coming soon, right?
Gavin Lee
6:24
One might happen, but it sounds like they're fine playing Brassard and/or Sheahan on the wing
6:25
I think Rutherford was just frustrated that he couldn't find any center depth last year, and now is committed to not having that problem.
He also probably realizes that everyone is looking for centers at the deadline
He can move them then if he needs to

Did Pittsburgh overpay for Jack Johnson?
Gavin Lee
6:25
Yes. Simply, yes.
Harold
6:25
Would you trade Thomas and/or Kyrou for 1 season of The Bread Man!?
Gavin Lee
6:26
It would probably take "and", which means I wouldn't.
Caps Fan
6:27
Hey Gavin. Not too thrilled with Copley's play in the AHL this past year (.894 ... ouch!), let alone that he will be the backup. I wouldn't mind bringing in a guy like Mason cheap to help fringe a bit, even if Copley gets the backup job. Do you see the Caps making a move for a fringe goalie to help out, and what do they do if they don't get another goalie and Copley fails?
