I think the Canes caved.  For a team that struggled to score, they just traded away 25 goals, maybe more.

There was something that happened to make this situation arise. Skinner's name has been out there since Dundon took over. Some believe he immediately turned down extension talks, similar to the bad meetings the team had with Lindholm the day before trading him.
6:58
I've never met Dundon, or had any sort of communication with him. But from the outside it seems very "buy into this plan or we'll move on immediately"

When would  seattle join the league and what name will they get.
Gavin Lee
7:00
Still a tentative plan for 2020-21 start, but there's no guarantee everything happens.
Zero idea what the eventual name will be,
Adam

Does this Skinner deal mean a potential Faulk deal could happen soon too?
Gavin Lee
7:01
Can't read into that one way or another.
Still think it happens for Faulk before the season, but not necessarily sooner now.
Seattle Mermen

You’re welcome
Gavin Lee
7:01
This would be awesome just for the pre-game skits in Vegas.
Richard
7:02
Do you like any of the plethora of kids Washington will have at Hershey?
Gavin Lee
7:03
I mean Ilya Samsonov is a stud.
Gersich should do well in the minor leagues.
Joe
7:04
And do you think Matthew's signs for 100 million dollars
Gavin Lee
7:04
Don't think he gets quite to $100MM.

Will Filip Chytil live up to the hype?
Gavin Lee
7:05
It's funny that he had such little hype until he blew everyone away at camp.
Everyone was talking about Andersson instead.
He's really good. Don't think he's a superstar.
Not sure what the hype level is really at right now.
Chris
7:05
And who gets bumped out of the Pacific?
Bob
7:05
Who is gonna move to the Central when Seattle gets in?
Gavin Lee
7:06
There's no easy answer to this

Thanks for the reply, Gavin.  Curious if you think NHL players will compete in the next Olympics.  Last year sucked without them.
Gavin Lee
7:07
I do think they'll be in the next one. I think it will be a negotiating point in the next CBA.
7:08
Problem is is that there is a lot of the NHLPA that won't want to die on that hill.
Another reason we might see a work stoppage.

Hey Gavin, last year at this time Colorado had 3 defenseman under contract and things looked like a mess, how things have changed! Do you see them taking another step forward this year?? Maybe going after Erik karlson?
Gavin Lee
7:10
I wrote this piece at the very beginning of 2018, when it was obvious what the Avalanche were becoming. https://www.prohockeyrumors.com/2018/01/an-avalanche-is-beginning-in-c...
They are set up for a huge window of contention.
I'm not sure that includes Karlsson, but it was definitely one of my first thoughts. Send him back there for a package that includes Ottawa's own pick.

Which team has had the best ‘under the radar’ off-season?
Gavin Lee
7:12
I'm not sure how under the radar it is, but Arizona has had quite a good one.
7:13
Not just the Galchenyuk and Hinostroza additions (which I like), but things like getting Kevin Connauton to come back on a super cheap deal, and signing Marcus Kruger basically just as leverage over Brad Richardson.
I don't love the Barrett Hayton pick, but they obviously did.
7:14
I mean acquiring Kruger, obviously, not signing.
JAY T
7:15
Speaking of which, when is the next CBA?  Can we expect another shortened season like the (better than nothing, I guess) 48gm set in 2012-13?
Gavin Lee
7:15
In 2019, both sides have opt-out clauses that could give us a work stoppage in 2020-21.
7:16
Otherwise it runs out in 2022
