Cliff Pu and three picks outside the first round is a very nice deal for Buffalo.
6:42
Buffalo improves the roster again. Lots of changes in that locker room, we'll have to see if they can all come together.
JAY T

VGK's Cody Glass, Cody Eakin, a 1st rounder and picking up Bobby Ryan's contract for Erik Karlsson.   Does Ottawa make this trade?  If not, what kind of package do you see getting it done?
Gavin Lee
6:43
That's actually probably pretty close, but it wouldn't have an extension attached.
But I'm not sold on Karlsson even getting traded before the season begins anymore. I'm not sure what's going on there.
Chris
6:44
Seriously thought the Jackets could have taken a big futures package for Panarin and flipped some of those for Skinner.
Gavin Lee
6:44
Would have been able to keep a big chunk of the package...
6:45
No wonder Pacioretty hasn't been dealt yet.
If that's the market.
Troy Bouwer
6:46
Where do I end up now?
Gavin Lee
6:46
I wonder if Anaheim isn't a perfect fit.
6:47
Brouwer can play a little center if the team's desperate, and fits into what Carlyle likes to do physically
EJ
6:47
Did the Canes basically just give Skinner away?
Gavin Lee
6:47
Pu is a good prospect, but he's not a blue chip by any means.
6:48
Three picks is good too, especially given Skinner had a no-trade clause
But, I did think he would bring more.
He's a really talented goal scorer.
Chris
6:48
These teams with highend rentals must be hoping for better returns at the trade dealine.
Gavin Lee
6:49
Or just during the year when injuries start to pile up, or teams that are in "win now" start to slip
There's no rush to get stuff done in the summer
Jacob
6:49
Pittsburgh Penguins should of got Jeff Skinner
Gavin Lee
6:50
I'm kind of surprised Pittsburgh, or several other teams, couldn't beat that package.
Maybe Skinner only waived for a few teams.
Chris
6:51
Wonder if Carolina was refusing to take cap back?
Gavin Lee
6:51
Sure, but there are plenty of teams who have room to fit in his deal.
Doesn't even earn $6MM.
Oh you mean Pittsburgh specifically I guess.
JAY T
6:51
So you think Vegas doesn't offer that much if EK doesn't agree to an extension OR are you saying Ottawa will demand more if he says yes to an extension?  The latter seems excessive to me, Sens could end up with nothing ala Tavares.
Gavin Lee
6:52
I think the Senators want to send him somewhere he'll sign if possible, to maximize the return.
If the deal is getting done right now, it would probably mean they found someone to do that.
6:53
Vegas would have to give more than Glass and a first for a Karlsson extension, even with Ryan's contract strapped on.
Eakin is just a body
If it's September 25th, and Karlsson is still a Senator? Maybe they move him without an extension in place.
6:54
Just don't think they're rushing to do that.
On Buffalo, Mark Scheig puts it well:

IN: Hutton, Dahlin, Hunwick, Skinner, Berglund, Sobotka, Sheary, Thompson

OUT: O'Reilly, Lehner
Jacob
6:55
Who win Sweden and USA game
Gavin Lee
6:55
The US won, Josh Norris tapped in the winner in OT after Quinn Hughes made a mockery of the Swedish defense.
Chris
6:55
Do the Canes look to move a defensemen for a forward or continue to stock up the pipeline?
Gavin Lee
6:56
I imagine they'd be open to bringing in another NHL forward, but he'd have to be fairly young still.
They know what they're not, and that's Stanley Cup contenders right now.
