I guess I was trying to ask how much you thought the Avalanche got him for a bargain or overpaid by.
Gavin Lee
6:36
It's not really a bargain or an overpay. They believe in him and he was willing to lock himself into the long-term deal. The Avalanche take on risk that he'll stop developing, while he risks being way underpaid down the line.
6:37
But it's a pretty nice deal. Most players (see: agents) don't like that kind of thing because it limits their upside.
Barbashev
6:37
What's my deal?
Gavin Lee
6:38
Sounds like he's after a similar deal to Sundqvist.
4 years, around $2MM per

6:38
Are the Avalanche going to get a backup goalie?
Gavin Lee
6:39
I would roll with Francouz. I'm a big fan of his.
Colorado has shown they're okay with smaller goaltenders.
6:40
Also they loaded up on minor league contracts in net. Hunter Miska and Mason McDonald
Both guys are former top prospects.
Barbashev
6:41
Am I going to get it?
Gavin Lee
6:41
I think so. Probably had to wait for the Edmundson decision, now they can get to work.
Ron Duguay
6:42
Hey, Gavin!  Why was there so much confusion as to when the 2nd buyout opened for the Rangers? In particular, the NY Post provided 5 or 6 windows.
Gavin Lee
6:43
So the problem with assuming the timing on those windows is that we don't actually often know exactly when the contract is filed with the league. When an arbitration decision comes down, even if the team is forced to accept it because it's less than the walkaway number there is still paperwork to do.
6:44
In the Rangers case, that filing wasn't done until after the business day closed at the NHL offices. The "3 days later" part of the CBA isn't clear, but it means business days.
That doesn't include weekends or holidays
So it was much later than expected.

8 years 90 million for Pietrangelo?
Gavin Lee
6:45
That's a little high I would think, but I discussed it above.
Ken Holland
6:45
I actually still have a couple of mill to spend. But I’ll use it to sign Brassard to a 1yr $2.5M bounce back deal. Will I get my money’s worth?
Gavin Lee
6:45
It's about as good of a bet on the open market as you can get right now.
6:46
Remember though that you don't want to be right up against the cap to start the year if you can help it.
Want to start banking that daily cap space to make a bigger move later on if possible.
6:47
There is also Mike Smith's performance bonuses to keep in mind.
Really can't have those on the cap next year.
Ron Duguay
6:48
Thanks.  The Rangers still need to create more cap room, most likely by dealing Kreider. Which teams seem likely fits for his services that can take his contract without having to swap another sizable contract in return? (This probably rules out Boston).
Gavin Lee
6:48
There will definitely be a lot of interest in Kreider from basically every contender, so I imagine his market is being held up a little bit by the RFAs.
6:49
A lot of teams in the Metro could use him, but you always wonder about those in division deals.
Ron Duguay
6:49
I’m guessing Colorado will call Goryon
Gavin Lee
6:49
I'm not so sure, but he would certainly be a great addition.
6:50
Fits into their speed game and gives another big body
Noah
6:50
Any idea if the Penguins will be able to trade Johnson? And who would be able to fill for him? Riikola or would it be someone who isn’t current on the roster?
Gavin Lee
6:50
I know it sounds crazy but just keep an eye on John Martino who signed today.
6:51
Marino..whew.
There will also be the Chase Priskie sweepstakes, which Pittsburgh will probably be involved in given their NCAA history
Now don't get me wrong, neither of those players replace Johnson specifically
Noah
6:52
Only thing is he’s also a right shot. We would have 4 on the roster if he plays
Gavin Lee
6:52
Having 4 on the roster isn't really an issue, and they've used players on their off-side before.
But you're right.
