At the very least, they could move one of the guys lower down for a small return if they absolutely had to.
Jeff Skinner
6:21
Have I joined a Stanley Cup contender or do they still have moves to make to reach that next level?
Gavin Lee
6:21
I don't think it's moves they need to make now, but patience.
6:22
Bringing in quality NHL players like Berglund/Sobotka/Sheary/Thompson/Skinner is going to make Buffalo a lot better, and they should be a bubble team at least this season.
But the real test will come when Mittelstadt and Dahlin and others start to hit their real prime.
That's only a few years away, at which point they'll want to have at least experienced some seasons not at the bottom of the standings.
6:23
Ones where, even if there isn't a playoff series, there is at least some drama to the last month of the season.

6:23
What’s the deal with Krug he’s a good player and he’s not really overpaid. Why is there so much talk about moving him?
Gavin Lee
6:23
He is a good player, you're right.
6:24
It's just that he has two years left before UFA, and many see his best qualities as redundant on the Bruins.
6:25
Krug averaged almost 3 and a half minutes of powerplay time last season.
You have to think that McAvoy and company could handle those just fine
6:26
I don't think Boston is in a rush to move him, just that he would bring back a real return--similar to Sami Vatanen probably, who netted the Ducks a legitimate top-six player.
6:27
Moving McQuaid or Miller doesn't get you that
McKenny
6:27
Which goalie wearing a new uniform this year has the best season?
Gavin Lee
6:28
I'll actually go with Robin Lehner.
If you are going to put your money on anyone, put it on Mitch Korn.

6:29
Do you see ANY package that sees Erik Karlsson join Vegas and keep both teams happy?
Gavin Lee
6:30
I'm not sure either team would be totally happy with anything, no. To get Karlsson you probably have to move two top tier prospects. That's really difficult.

But, sending your captain, face of the franchise and Norris winning defenseman for prospects has got to be just awful.
6:31
Everyone gets that it's the right thing to do.
But prospects don't pan out, a lot.
Even if you snatched a couple good young roster players.
Do you think Shea Theodore is going to put up the same season in Ottawa that he will in Vegas?
6:32
There is a deal to be made. But it would take a huge amount of work, because of how hard it would be for both teams.
Bryan
6:32
Any news to report on Josh Mortissey?
Gavin Lee
6:33
I've heard nothing, in fact. But there is little to worry about (even though I know Jets fans are gun shy because of Trouba) with non-arbitration RFAs in almost every instance.
He'll sign.

How much did Detroit's draft help their rebuild? Lots of $$$ coming off the books next year too... also, what do you think the floor & ceiling are for Zadina (player comparison wise)?
Gavin Lee
6:34
It helped a lot, though there is still a lot of work to be done.
6:35
Not just the first round either. Berggren and McIsaac are legit prospects.
6:36
On Zadina, I actually wasn't super surprised that he fell a bit. I didn't have Hayton in front of him (did anyone?) but didn't have him up in the same category as Svechnikov like some did.
6:37
Player comps are difficult for me because he doesn't play exactly like anyone else, but his ceiling could be a 40-goal scorer in his prime. It's not just that he has an excellent shot (he does) but that he finds ways to get it off when others wouldn't.
Now, that's certainly not to say that he will definitely ever score 40, or even 30.
6:40
A possible comp might be Skinner actually, though that's more for offensive production and not the exact way they would get to it.
He also is a more involved defender than Skinner has ever been.

I'm right there with you Karl.
Dvorak's contract was the first NHL transaction this week.

My thoughts oh Robin Lehner is he still has a huge upside
i think the islanders may have found there long term goalie, if they could resign him....wonder why other teams passed on him, he has good numbers for a guy who played on lousy teams.
