Every year a surprise goalie or two exceed expectations in a big way, and alternatively some fall off a cliff.  Darling and Talbot for example.  Any picks for this year's winners and losers?
Gavin Lee
6:46
I think Antti Raanta will prove that he's a top tier goaltender, and Cory Schneider will completely lose the starting role.
Mike
6:47
Which Talbot will show up this year?
Gavin Lee
6:48
Better than 2017-18 for sure.
But I doubt he'll be a Vezina contender ever again.

Final Four fisticuffs:  Bieksa vs Wilson,  Reaves vs Simonds.  Who takes the title?
Gavin Lee
6:48
How can you bet against the superpunch?
But seriously, I might rather get knocked out by Bieksa's one punch than ever fight Ryan Reaves.

What are the backgrounds of you and the other writers? You and Zach Leach in particular write very well and knowledgeably
Gavin Lee
6:50
Between the group, we have broadcasting, law, accounting and educational backgrounds, all with a little journalism sprinkled on top.
But I do appreciate the comment.
Reaves
6:51
I'll eat Simmonds for Supper and Bieksa for Breakfast!!
Gavin Lee
6:51
Have you ever seen Reaves' goal horn impersonation?
6:52
Not that it has anything to do with this, just thought I'd bring it up.
Nick

Any big time players you see being moved before the season? Karlsson the most likely?
Gavin Lee
6:52
Karlsson and Pacioretty are probably the most likely, yes.
September trades are rare and difficult to pull off
6:53
I thought Carolina would do something, but Waddell recently mentioned the whole defensive group heading to camp.
Gary
6:53
Was Stone overachieving last year, or can he reach point per game this season?
Marla
6:53
What kind of contract will Mark Stone get next offseason? Will it be with the Sens?
Gavin Lee
6:53
These are tied together.
To the first part, I think he was both not overachieving, and cannot reach a point per game this year.
6:54
That's a confusing sentence.
I think Stone is an excellent player, and one of the best two-way wingers in the game.
But I just can't see enough offensive success in Ottawa this year for him to be a point per game guy.
6:55
In terms of a contract? He's already earning $7.35MM this year. That times six is definitely possible.
I don't think it will be with the Senators, but both sides have come out to say that they want to keep negotiating.

I looked up Reaves goal horn impression. HAHAHA that was hilarious.  Thanks!
Gavin Lee
6:56
Definitely worth it.

Is Jimmy Howard a Red Wing at the end of the season?
Gavin Lee
6:56
Yes.
6:57
I can't know for sure obviously, but I don't really see why anyone would be desperate to add him at the deadline given his contract.
You can find backup goaltenders everywhere if you're desperate.
6:58
I don't really see why they wouldn't bring him back on a cheaper contract to be honest.
Unless his play falls apart (which it very well could).
Erik Karlsson
6:58
So no chance I call out ownership, eh?
Gavin Lee
6:59
I would be absolutely stunned if he did it directly.
But something like Seguin's "disappointed" speech, sure.

Will Nikita Zadorov be in this top fighter discussion in five years?
Gavin Lee
7:01
Just doesn't do it enough to really be in the conversation does he?
