They made a good move in the summer to get Bjorkstrand, but overall I already think they've been a bit too aggressive in trying to build a winner right away
The idea that they have more than 63 million for 14 players next season already is kind of scary to me, as an outside observer.
5:51
Sure, they could have used a bump and there were some relatively low prices paid over the last couple of weeks
But they have a bunch of draft picks this year that can set them up nicely for the future, if next year doesn't go so well
Going after rentals this early is probably a mistake
Pittsburgh Pen-Wins?
5:52
With the addition of Kulikov to an already loaded Defense core. What do that mean for P.O.Joseph or the likes of Chad Ruhwedel? We knew an addition was going to be made but odd there was no outgoing players, am I right or wrong? Thanks!
Gavin Lee
5:52
It probably means those guys rotate out, but frankly I do not like the deadline for Pittsburgh.
I don't understand why those were the targets, even if they were in a tough cap situation.
5:53
I would not be surprised to see Kulikov scratched at some point in the playoffs (if they make it)
5:54
He's fine, but he's certainly not really pushing them forward

Do you see me making any moves in the off season to unload some of the defensemen with nmc? What other fa options could you see me making a play for to speed up the retool?
Gavin Lee
5:54
I think it is a near-guarantee that the Blues change their defense group this summer. Armstrong is not happy with it right now
5:55
No-trades are less effective in the offseason as well. Players still hold the power, obviously, but they don't have to relocate their family in the middle of the school year.
I imagine one or even two of those four will be moved before next season starts

Which team do you feel helped themselves the most?
Gavin Lee
5:58
So this is going to sound funny, but I think the Senators.

Let me explain. It's not even that I am a big Chychrun fan. He's a good player, he's a little overhyped.

But going in and getting him now sends a message to your team, and your fans. Remember that this is a club in the process of getting sold and still trying to get a downtown rink.

Getting buy-in from the fans is something that probably isn't talked about enough in small markets. Public opinion can be a huge driving factor in arena developments, franchise stability, etc.
But it also rewards a young group that believes they can make the playoffs right now.
They are going to be playing meaningful games down the stretch, have expectations, pressure, and might fail.
5:59
But you don't just suddenly go from a team that is the league's laughing stock to competing for the Stanley Cup.
Regardless of it being Chychrun, that move is an important one in Ottawa

dear kraken fan... you could have someone like the vegas GM getting excited about their early success... and trading a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for.... thomas tartar.  lol.  i wouldn't complain.  vegas ain't winnin a cup with this group and you guys weren't making the western conference finals this year with any additions either.

Luke Hughes
6:01
I think it’s a cop out when around trade deadlines teams say that rookie call ups or the return of injured players to be the best possible player transaction. However, was the confirmation that Luke Hughes will join the Devils at the end of Michigan’s season, the best “transaction” of the day. And how does that effect the Devils chances to go deep. (Also the East is a crapshoot so it’s hard to speculate on the outcomes.)

6:01
It probably is the best news of the day, you're right
Just wait for all the Cale Makar comparisons when he tries to step right into the playoffs, haha.
6:02
He's going to be big for that team, but Devils fans better cut him some slack if he can't play 25 minutes a night right away

Thoughts on the Klingberg return? Seems disappointing, although I don’t know much about the prospect they got back..
Gavin Lee
6:03
It is definitely disappointing, but Klingberg played his way into it over the last couple of seasons
He has been an absolute trainwreck in his own end this year
And honestly, if he really wanted to build up his value and get flipped to a contender, he shouldn't have asked for $7MM
6:04
Not dragging him for getting paid, but I think it might have cost him money in the long-run.

So whats the best snack food? And why is it combos
Gavin Lee
6:05
Combos are like an B+ snack food
Good, but you can't do them every day

What are your thoughts on the Quick situation? I am a big believer in loyalty and thought the Kings could have handled the situation better.
Gavin Lee
6:06
Without being in the room, I can't really say for sure.
But the fact that reports immediately came out about him being blindsided and upset at least means that his representation wasn't informed first
6:07
Could they have handled it better? Sure. But Quick should have known it was a real possibility even without anyone spelling it out for him
I think there was probably just a misunderstanding, more than anything.
6:08
He'll have his number retired there one day
