It's pretty tough to argue at this point that Mason Rudolph gives you a better chance to win an NFL game than Duck Hodges right now.

Earlier this season, some were counting Haden out--here we are in the final quarter of the season, and he's sealed out the win in at least the past 2 games, possibly the last 3. His first interception against the Cards in particular was highly athletic. Do you think his surge is solely because QBs are throwing to his man in order to avoid Minkah and Nelson? In other words, is he perceived by opposing offenses as the "weak link"? (What a weak link to have, amirite?)
Steelers Insider
12:31
Eh, maybe a little bit, but he's also just healthier now than he was early in the season dealing with a shoulder injury.
NC Steel

It seems Snell runs best inside the tackles, but he's not fast enough to consistently run outside. Derrith Whyte looks very fast and has shown he can gain the edge outside. In the red zone yesterday, the team ran Snell several times to the outside and each time they had little or no gain. Why doesn't the OC call the running plays matching player strength to the play-call? Thanks
Steelers Insider
12:32
Sometimes that'll be too predictable for the opposing defense. If they always know Whyte's gonna run outside, and Snell inside, then that's not necessarily good play-calling either.
Hell's Not for Heroes

O-line has been run blocking better the past few weeks--does this have anything to do with Hodges taking snaps instead of Rudolph, is it just weaker competition, or something else? Thanks!
Steelers Insider
12:34
We haven't really heard much about Hodges making a lot of checks or changing calls at the line of scrimmage. So, probably competition and just the OL playing better than they had been.

How much do you think the odds of the Steelers winning in Baltimore improve with yesterday's results?  It's highly unlikely anyone will catch them for the number one seed given their head to head result with New England.
Steelers Insider
12:36
It's improving with every step Baltimore takes to locking up the No. 1 seed, or even being locked into another seed. Would make no sense for the Ravens to not play backups in Week 17 if it's meaningless for them.

Can you please explain the "fake punt" near disaster?  There are more theories and versions than the Kennedy assassination.   Thank you.
Steelers Insider
12:37
Sounds like every party is pretty much taking the blame for it. Tomlin accepted responsibility, Jordan Berry accepted responsibility, it ended up not mattering but yeah, very bizarre in the moment and even after the fact.
Gene

I truly believe that Whyte needs to get more carries for our running game to be relevant going forward.  Your thoughts please.
Steelers Insider
12:38
It sure does seem like he can be helpful, yeah. Easy to see why Tomlin and the front office liked him going into the draft.
Kerryth
12:40
It may be moot if Samuel's is injured but his effort in running plays is non-existent. How can we give White the ball more? He has the it factor.
Steelers Insider
12:41
He had a decent run or two the week before against Cleveland. I didn't realize there were so many Kerrith Whyte fans around here. But yeah, he's an exciting player.

Does Duck have a chance to earn a role next year, or will he have to go through Paxton?  I am assuming that Rudolph leads just by where he was drafted, this seasons efforts aside.
Steelers Insider
12:42
Paxton Lynch won't be a factor
Daniel
12:42
Buffalo's defense is legit. How should we attack their defense?
Steelers Insider
12:42
Always gotta establish the run first, my dear Daniel.
Edelman
12:42
End of game scenario and Duck tries to pass. Why not run, run, run to kill clock and timeouts?
Steelers Insider
12:43
They called a screen, so being a rookie, a young QB trying to do what he's told, he probably figured "I gotta throw the screen." But yeah, a more seasoned player might recognize it's not there, and just tuck and go to keep the clock rolling.
Scissor
12:43
The defense was incredible on the final series with the game on the line. Why does it take a potential choke scenario to get their best?
Steelers Insider
12:44
Yeah you're right, this defense stinks otherwise
Tabitha
12:44
What's the latest on Conner? He seems as soft as tissue paper.
Steelers Insider
12:44
Just that he's still rehabbing, still letting the shoulder heal so that he doesn't reinjure it again next time he plays. He's been getting in limited practices, which means running around in uniform and doing a lot of stuff, but not everything. No need to risk contact between Wednesday and Friday.
Terry
12:45
With Ju-Ju back, are the top 3 wrs him, Johnson and Washington? Who would lose a helmet when he returns? I like Cain's deep ball ability.
Steelers Insider
12:45
Most definitely. Gotta keep Cain around for potential big plays, and Johnny Holton for special teams. Tevin Jones would probably be an inactive.
Brad
12:45
How serious are the injuries to Vance and Samuels? What does Pitt do for an rb if Samuels is out vs Buffalo and Conner declines to play again?
Steelers Insider
12:45
Unclear at this point. Tomlin will have an update tomorrow, then we'll see what they do at practice Wednesday. Snell, Whyte, Edmunds would be the rotation, most likely.
Shawn
12:46
How bad is Edmunds to misplay the easy int vs Johnson? He's horrible. Sean Davis to return and take that spot for a few weeks?
Steelers Insider
12:47
Yeah, that was a rough one. Bad angle, then didn't get off the ground nearly enough to make up for it. Seems like every time Edmunds takes a step forward, he takes one back. Generally, he's been solid. But not quite at the level of everyone else in the secondary.
Steve
12:47
Matakevich runs like a snail. His blown tackle on their fake punt was embarrassing. Time to move on from him and
Steelers Insider
12:47
He still gets a lot of ST tackles, but yeah, it's the final year of his contract, so they could move on there. Robert Spillane is a similar player and has been helpful on kick coverage, too.
Mason
12:48
Time to trade Rudolph in the off-season? Cleveland needs a qb it appears and he and Garrett could share a training camp room.
Steelers Insider
12:48
Not sure what kind of return you could get for him, given his last couple games of film.

With the possibility of McDonald unavailable for Sunday's game, do you think Vannett can be a suitable replacement, and is Gentry ready to see significant playing time?
Steelers Insider
12:48
With how much the Steelers are using their tight ends these days, you could probably be a suitable replacement, marty v

Lately I’ve noticed a switch to “Steelers Insider” and articles attributed to “Pittsburgh Post-Gazette” rather than the host or author. Why the change?

Do you think we’ll see a Duck to Zach Banner before the season is done?!
