Pre-Deadline Chat Bonanza Extraordinaire And Other Superlatives

Unsurprisingly

Braves need OF help.c Dickerson
Steve Adams
1:31
Dickerson is a totally viable option for them who wouldn't necessarily cost a ton. Easy fit, agreed.
Austin Brice
1:31
Should more people be talking about a potential trade for me?
Steve Adams
1:34
I don't think he's sub-2.00 ERA good, but as someone who can post a mid-3.00s ERA and has several years of control, sure Brice might have a bit of value. He's also only four months removed from being a waiver claim who was freely available, though, so it's not like teams are going to fully buy into him being some kind of buzzsaw in the late innings.

Maybe if he were punching out like 13 hitters per nine or had an elite ground-ball rate or had made really any appreciable change. As it is, he's sitting on a .230 BABIP with an 86% strand rate.

He's been a nice find for the Marlins but isn't suddenly a premier trade chip.

are teams asking the yankees for Jasson Dominguez? he's received so much hype recently
Steve Adams
1:37
Take a look back at the history of prospects who receive that level of hype when they sign as international teenagers. I mean, kudos to his reps and/or the Yankees for pushing that insane narrative to make all parties involved look better, but there's little predicting 16-year-olds. Not saying he doesn't have value, but I've said before, this whole "Mickey Mantle" thing is a laughably transparent PR campaign. It's a freaking joke.

Do you buy the Giants actually making the wildcard?
Steve Adams
1:37
I don't.
1:38
Their recent offensive surge just doesn't look anywhere near sustainable.
1:39
And they may be 2.5 games back, but there are still five clubs ahead of them in the WC picture
Mike elias
1:40
Mancini at 50?  Mlbtraderumors is insane.  He's probably the best bat available not to mention his sweet contract status.
Steve Adams
1:41
If you actually read the intro to the post, you'd see it's based on impact and likelihood of a deal. Mancini isn't likely to be moved because of the reasons you just said. Ergo, he's 50th on the list.
Jimmy
1:41
Is Frazier, German, Andujar, Loaisiga enough for Syndergaard?
Steve Adams
1:42
German and all the former top prospects whose value has diminished over the past year is not going to get Thor, no.
Twins8791
1:42
Are the twins done dealing?
Steve Adams
1:42
They'll add at least one more relivere.
Reliever, even,
Pun Intendi
1:43
What's the latest on this Diaz for Benintendi rumor?
Steve Adams
1:46
I don't even understand where all this is coming from? Is this based on MLB Network's ridiculous "trade theoretical" segments where Mark DeRosa just made a bunch of speculation? Or is it based on Buster Olney saying the Red Sox might have to give up an MLB asset "like Benintendi?" Either way, I've not seen one report even remotely indicating that the Red Sox would do that -- and I can't see any scenario where they would.

The Giants & Houston are discussing MadBum now?!  Can they just make up their mind so I know which type of heartbreak to prep for?!
Steve Adams
1:47
The Giants have been discussing Bumgarner and all their other tradeable assets for the past month or more. It's their job to know the price they could get. They probably won't decide until tomorrow.
Robbie Ray
1:48
Will I look good in a Astro uniform?  Would Houston be willing to part with Kyle Tucker or Whitley to get me over there?
Steve Adams
1:49
The Astros haven't been willing to part with Tucker or Whitley for anyone, and Ray won't change that. Could still land in Houston, but not at that price.
Michael Chavis
1:49
What are the odds I am included in just about any trade of significance for the Red Sox?
Steve Adams
1:52
I just don't know that they'll deal from their MLB roster -- particularly someone who they control another six seasons -- to push for a wild card spot. My expectation is that Chavis (and Benintendi) are both there on Aug. 1
Tony Kemp
1:52
In any of the likely trade situations for my "old" team, who do you potentially see me getting packaged with to get a deal done?  Derek Fisher, Seth Beer?  I guess it likely depends on which tier pitcher they are really going to get.
Steve Adams
1:54
Yeah, it depends what type of arm the Astros are looking at, but I can certainly see Kemp being in a deal for pitching help. Derek Fisher as well, definitely. They're not going to be key pieces for Syndergaard or Bumgarner or something, but if Houston looks at Tanner Roark or a similar lower-profile arm, Kemp could be in that type of deal as a secondary or tertiary piece.
Mets Man
1:56
Just heard that Erwin Santana is scratched from his AAA start for the Mets.. Is he heading to the club due to a Thor trade?
Steve Adams
1:56
I mentioned that in here an hour ago! He could be, or they might want him fresh to start later this week. Wheeler's scheduled to pitch on Aug. 1
Natitude
1:57
Is Raisel Iglesias a realistic trade possibility for a beleaguered Nats bullpen?
Steve Adams
1:59
I don't know that any team is going to pay the price on Iglesias when his walk and home-run rates have spiked. He hasn't pitched particularly well in '19, the Reds aren't going to be motivated to sell low on him ... it's a tough combination of factors to make a deal come together.

Nats have surely asked on the price -- as they have with every reliever available -- but there are more plausible arms out there.

Any chance the Red Sox decide to just add another starter and use their excess starters out of the bullpen like they did last postseason? I could see Cashner's stuff really playing up in 2 inning spurts.
Steve Adams
2:01
I love the idea of Cashner in the 'pen:
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/05/orioles-trade-rumors-andrew-cas...

If they find the asking prices on relievers too steep, I think there's logic to that. Sure.
2:03
Ok. I have to wrap up and help Jeff out on some stuff. Thanks, as always, for chatting I extended this one as long as I could! I'm on Twitter for more questions @Adams_Steve. Jeff will have a post-deadline chat Thursday or Friday to talk about all the madness I'm sure will unfold in the next 26 hours.
Enjoy the deadline chaos!
