Guest, you do have to apply for each program separately and be admitted to each program separately. While it is definitely feasible, I believe we only have a handful of students that are doing this dual program at any one time.

Hi Will, I I'm also interested in the GET program.  Could you please share the admission rate from last year?

Hi Linda, I'm sorry, but I'm not familiar with the GET program. What does the acronym stand for?

Hi Will! My name is Joan, I have a some questions regarding the MCIS program for which I am filling out my application:

  1. I am going to be giving my GRE examination on February 26th. If I report my scores before the deadline, but then if the deadline time comes and the scores have not arrived yet to Upenn, will my application be compromised?
  2. I have obtained a bachelor’s degree in Computer and Systems Engineering and I am applying to the MSE in CIS program. As I am still not sure if my coursework would be enough for the Computer and Information Science program, I talked with Mr. Felker and he told me to just apply to MCIS and if they see my profile is more suitable for the MCIT program, then they would evaluate my candidacy for that program instead. I just want to confirm this with you too, so that I do not open another application for MCIT.
  3. I consider my GRE as very low since it is a 305 + AWA 4.0. I have programmed another GRE for Feb 26th in order to achieve a better score, but since I realized there is a de

Hi Joan, Here are answers to your questions 1) As long as you have taken the exam by the March 15 deadline, that will be fine. We do ask you to report the unofficial scores you receive (the ones you get at the end of the exam) on your application, so we can start the review with that information. 2) Yes, that is correct, although it is done on a relatively rare basis to my knowledge.

Hi Will, I am interested in the M:IPD Integrated product design program but have noticed that it is very similar to the MSE:IPD program. Since I am currently studying towards a undergraduate double degree in engineering and business, I would just like to know: 1. Which program you recommend. 2. What are the acceptance rates of the two programs. 3. If it is possible to switch between the two programs if I am admitted by any one of them. Thank you very much!
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:22
HI Risa, I already answered the first part of your question, but for the 2nd one, you are able to apply to transfer to the other program, or any other master's program, after you have completed at least one semester in your initial program in good academic standing.

  1. I consider my current GRE score as very low since it is a 305 + AWA 4.0. I have programmed another GRE for Feb 26th in order to achieve a better score, but since I realized there is a deadline for Feb 1st, could you please suggest me if I should just apply with these current results or wait until my next GRE examination?
  2. I have studied my undergraduate program in Peru. There, the scores ranged in a scale from 0 to 20. In this case when filling out my application in the Academic Background section, for “GPA scale” (which has options “4.0”, “Other” and “No GPA”) should I just pick “Other” and write “GPA scale from 0 to 20” or should I choose “No GPA”?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:23
Joan, the deadline for the CIS MSE program is March 15, not Feb 1. So you have time to complete the GRE on Feb 26. 2) You should only pick "No GPA," if there was no GPA. From what you said, it seems there was a GPA, just on a 20 point scale, so you should select "Other," and fill in that information.

Phillip, that is for the undergraduate application. It does not apply for our graduate program.

Hi Will, is there a deferral policy for theC GGT program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist

Hi Linda, there is. An accepted student is able to request a deferral for up to 1 year twice for a total of two years or four full semesters.

Hi Will, if my early admission application has been declined, can I apply again for regular admission?
In addition, will different GPAs from different schools be viewed differently? My undergrad school is very strict on GPA, and it is one of the top ranking uni around. I am worried if I would be disadvantaged as compared to schools that are not so strict in giving grades.
Thank you!
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:26
Hi Xinwei. If you receive an unfavorable decision on your first application, you cannot apply to the same program again for the same academic year. However, you can apply to a different program. As for GPA, this is one of several metrics our reviewers look at, so it may not be the deciding factor. It also depends on how you did in the individual courses that would be important for your master's program.

Hi Will, thank you for answering that question. That was one of my questions. I had taken both the GRE and GMAT. However, my GRE is now invalid. I have a valid GMAT score. Would it be ok if I submitted my GMAT in liue of my GRE scores?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist

Vidhya, we don't accept GMAT scores for the EE program.

Hello Will
I want to do a Masters in Embedded Systems. However since the embedded system program is not accepting admissions from FALL 2020, I am applying to the Electrical Engineering program. So will I still be allowed to do a specialization in Embedded Systems i.e. will I be allowed to follow that curriculum which was previously under the Embedded Systems program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:28
Guest, that's a great question and I recommend contacting the ESE program at esegrad@seas.upenn.edu, as they can provide more specific guidance about that specialization.

My last question was:
  1. My University does not print the GPA in their transcripts, do I have to request a document to my university mentioning my GPA and then upload it along with my transcript? Or am I fine with just writing it in the Academic Background section of my application? (I know my GPA but do not have it printed in any document).
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:29
Joan, as long as the grades for the courses are listed on your transcript, this should be fine. However, we would ultimately require it if you are admitted and accept the offer to enroll.

Hi! I am applying in Robotics program. The program has asked for two recommendations to be submitted with the application. However, unknowingly i have requested for three recommendations and all are completed by now. So, will there be any issue regarding this ?

Priti, we're always happy to review additional letters of recommendation. There should not be any problem and you do not need to worry.

Correcion of my last question, I mean what's the admission rate for the CGGT program.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist

Linda, last year we received 145 applications and admitted approximately 40% of applicants.

How common are MCIT deferral request granted for job-related reasons? I'm especially wondering about the second request, if I wanted to to defer for a total of 2 years.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:32
Hi guest - they're not too common, but they're also not uncommon, if that makes sense. We always have a few folks that request to defer and, as I mentioned, if it is for a legitimate reason then you shouldn't have a problem. However, ultimately it is up to the program to approve the request, so I can not guarantee anything.

Yes (9.1% | 1 vote)

No (63.6% | 7 votes)

I've received some decisions, but not all (27.3% | 3 votes)

I've been waitlisted (0% | 0 votes)

Hi Will, thank you for your previous reply! According to CGGT's website, it says two degrees will be offered to students without technical background, which are MCIT and CGGT. So am I right to say that as a non-tech student, if I got admitted into CGGT, I will also be automatically admitted into MCIT?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:33
Hi Tang. No, it means that the MCIT program is the other program that someone with a non-CS/CIS background should consider. You will only be admitted to the program to which you apply.

Mr. Fenton, regarding your response to my question (I have obtained a bachelor’s degree in Computer and Systems Engineering and I am applying to the MSE in CIS program. 1. Then besides having opened an MCIS application, should I also open an application for MCIT?, If i do this, will I require more letters of recommendation or can I use the same I am using for MCIS?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:35
Hi Joan, if Mr. Felker has already told you that they'd look at your application for the MCIT program as well, then you should only need to apply to the CIS program.
