Hi there, when are the deadline for the MCIT on-campus and online programs? Are the MCIT on-campus and online programs full-time or part-time?
10:01
Also, what is the application process for the MSE/MCIT dual degree program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:02
So, we don't have a formal process to apply to both at the same time. You can apply for a second masters degree once you've completed one semester in your initial master's program in good academic standing.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:01
Hi Krishna, you can find all of our deadlines here: https://gradadm.seas.upenn.edu/how-to-apply/ The On-Campus program has a deadline of March 15 and the On-Line program has an early deadline of March 1 and late deadline of May 1.

Hi there, Is there any recommended/preferred distribution between the number of academic and professional LOR for the MSE in Data Science program ?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:03
Hi Shubham. You are required to have at least one academic Letter of Recommendation for all of our programs. After that, it's really up to you.

Hi I saw that the decisions release has changed. Does this apply to the on campus MCIT program as well? I applied early round and didn't receive my decision on Jan15th. Does this mean that I will receive a decision either before or on Feb15th or is it still all released on Feb 15th?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:05
Hi Guest. This is for all master's programs, so you could receive it as early as tomorrow.

Hello! I am currently applying for the Data Science master program. I was wondering which of the buckets in "BUCKETS for Technical & Depth Area Electives" in the program of study website (https://dats.seas.upenn.edu/programofstudy/) represent the depth areas. Thank you!
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:07
Hi Miranda, I recommend you contact the Program Coordinator, Staci Kaplan, at stacik@seas.upenn.edu. She can better answer that question. To my knowledge the "depth," is that you would take at least two related courses from the list that is published on the website.

Also, what counts as an academic LOR? Does an LOR from a person with whom the candidate did research work done at an institute other than the candidate's undergraduate institute count as an academic LOR?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:08
Shubham, it should be from either a professor or academic advisor. Unless the research you are discussing was done specifically for an academic program, that wouldn't usually count.

Hello! Thanks for hosting this! The personal statement guidelines suggest that it be no more than 2 pages long in a readable font. Is this intended to be single or double spaced?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:08
Hi Da, you're welcome. It's up to you, but while double-spaced may be easier to read, you can fit a lot less info on the pages.

For the MCIT programs (on campus and online) are they only part time or full time?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:09
Hi Krishna. Both can be done part-time, but the online one is much easier to do, because courses are asynchronous.

Hi Will, I am an international applicant interested in the on-campus MCIT program. I would like to know, what is the minimum requirement for the IELTS score? I have a current overall score of 8.0 and a lowest section score of 6.5. Does this satisfy the requirement?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:10
Hi Ashwin, we don't have a required IELTS score, but recommend a score of at least 7.5 overall.

Hi Will, I am an applicant for the program MSE Robotics. I wanna ask you that will admission commitee value applicant's extracurricular activities such as volunter teaching and association leadership? I am hesitating should I put these experiences in my Resume or I just put another project
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:11
Guest, I would recommend putting all of those things on your resume - we are looking for well-rounded candidates and it sounds like all of that would make you more well-rounded than just listing projects. But please, make sure to keep the projects as well.

Hi Will, I am due to apply for Master's in Mechanical Engineering. Have the decisions already been sent out? Does ME also have an early deadline?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:11
Hi Guest, no, we don't send decisions out before the deadline, and the deadline is Saturday.

Hello, I am a prospective student for the MSE in Data Science. What career resources do you provide students. Are there any internship oppurtunities while in the program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:14
Hi Sammy, we have a full career services office for the School of Engineering. We also have a university-wide career services office as well. They put on career fairs, offer resume/CV writing workshops and 1-on-1 assistance, will assist with job searches and pretty much everything else a career service office does. You can find more info on their website here: https://careerservices.upenn.edu/. You can also find their graduation result surveys here: https://careerservices.upenn.edu/post-graduate-outcomes/ . Finally, yes, there are definitely internship opportunities available during your time in grad school here.

I have been accepted into the SCMP Masters Program. However there is a minor correction in my application form that needs to be made. To whom should I contact for the same?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:15
Abhinav, congratulations! If you've been accepted, I'm not sure what correction would need to be made, but you can email admissions1@seas.upenn.edu.

I am applying for the MSE in Data Science. Does admissions want to know  about any relevant online courses I have taken? If so, where should I add that information? Also, would admissions want me to specify if I learned relevant skills from undergraduate classes that might not be apparent just from the course title? For instance, if I learned basic linear algebra from a Multivariate Stat class, or programming from a Game Design class?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:17
Hi Dan - there are two places where these things should be mentioned - one would be on your CV, and if you have enough courses like that, you could do an "Additional Courses" or "Additional Education" section. You could put the other skills in an "Additional Skills" section, or under "Computer Languages/Skills" section. I'd also recommend mentioning these, if you believe they're relevant, in your Personal statement.

Sohail, well, we wouldn't be able to give you a decision until we first have a completed application, including your GRE scores. As you can see from the website, we'll be releasing decisions every Friday, beginning tomorrow until May 8, which means it could be from whenever your application is complete (sometime after Feb 24) to May 8.
