And I am also wondering what is the difference between early application and regular application? Is it easier to get in through early application?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:31
Fan, the early deadlines usually have at least a slightly higher admit number, because the overall number of applications is lower.

Hi, Will! I will be applying to the MCIT program this Fall for the 2020 Fall Semester. I understand the early application deadline is Nov 15th, while the late deadline is in March. Are applications reviewed on a rolling basis? If I submit my application past the Nov deadline, in say December, will it be reviewed promptly, or will it fall into the latter group? Lastly, when are announcements typically made for the Early and Late Application cycles? Thanks for your time!
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:32
Kennedy, they're not on a rolling basis - all submitted by Nov 15 are reviewed. Then usually the rest are reviewed after Mar 15. Anything submitted after Nov 15 will usually not receive a decision until after Mar 15. The decision release dates are Jan 15, Feb 15 (for special cases), then Mar 15 and beyond. The full list of dates are here: https://gradadm.seas.upenn.edu/how-to-apply/

Hi will, thank you for your answer! Even before starting the program, we cannot switch from on-campus  MCIT to online MCIT?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir

Anny, that is correct.

Does the CIS program have the option for Co-op? Secondly, does the CIS program have a thesis or course-work option?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:33
Bhavye, no, we don't have a co-op option. And yes, there is a Thesis option for the master's program.

Thanks Will. I am graduating from a school in India which has English as its sole language of instruction, although it is not indicated on the transcript. Would a separate document from the school stating the same work? If yes, where do I upload it?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:35
Akhil, if English is the sole language of instruction, you can send us an email with the website address for where this is stated. If it is not on the school's website, nor on the transcript, we would need certified proof from the university that this is the case. In our experience, it is very rare for a school to not disclose this on either their website or their transcript, but still have it be official practice.

Hi Will, this is tour Claire, I am interested in the Chemical Engineering PhD program
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:35
Clair, that's great to know. What questions do you have?
Anny
10:21
Also Will, do you have any idea about how high the GRE needs to be to apply for the program in Penn Engineering?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:35
Anny, we don't have required GRE scores.

Hi Will, hope you are doing well! I'm applying for the MCIT program and am currently taking online classes for-credit at different institutions. In the application form when I'm listing the schools, is "SUNY Center Albany" referring to the SUNY's University of Albany? Because I couldn't find the university otherwise. Also, because I'm only taking courses and not enrolled as a part-time student at these institutions, what should I fill out for the "Type of degree or diploma", "Major Field(s) of Study", and GPA scale if I'm currently taking the class and there's no GPA yet? (For "Degree Level" I have put "Non Degree", please let me know if that is correct to write)
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:38
Emily, Yes, that should be fine for SUNY Albany. As for GPA scale - it's just that, the scale the school uses. It doesn't matter if you don't have a GPA or not yet. Type of Degree/Diploma would be "non degree. Field of study can also be "non," or just the program name.

Hello Will!I am applying for Robotics MSE progrma.
I had sent my TOEFL score to 2926   University Of Pennsylvania , department 68 Mechanical Engineering. Do I need to resend the scores to 2888? And Is the department appropriate for the program I am applying to?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir

Ketan, I've already answered your question twice. :)

My current score is V149 + Q 170 +3. Is the verbal too low for the master program application? Thanks
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:39
Guest, GRE is just one of many pieces of the application, so we don't have a cut-off or required GRE score.

Hi Will, if I am rejected in early application, can I re-apply in regular application?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:39
Wen, you can't apply for the same program more than once for the academic term. So no, if you're rejected from the early round, you can't apply for the regular decision.
Ryan

My current degree is a different engineering degree from the program I am applying for. I currently meet most of the pre-reqs but not all of them. Will I still be considered for a Ph.D. program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:40
Ryan, we consider all aspects of the application when reviewing candidates, so I can't really say. Sorry I can't offer more information, but we don't offer pre-application assessments.

Hi Will, if I apply for masters' program in CIS, then will I have the flexibility to choose my electives to pursue a specific domain like data science?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:41
Gaurav, you will be able to choose electives, but as we have a data science program, I'd suggest applying to that if it is where your interests lie.

Hi Will, I'm applying to the BME PhD program. I've been working in research labs at my school for the last 3 years at least 10 hours a week but have never done research for credit or done a summer REU. Will this be a problem?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:42
Zach, we don't have a specific research requirement. With that said, this is only one aspect of the application, and we review everything. With all that being said, I can't really say yes or no based on the information you submitted. Sorry.
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir

Hi folks, I will get to all of the questions, I promise. There's a lot, so please be patient. Thank you!

If I appear for GRE exam and receive the official scores after application deadline but submit the application adhering to the deadlines without attaching the score reports, then can I send/upload copies of GRE scores or any other supporting documents to supplement my application after the deadline?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:43
Gaurav, you'd need to have the official scores sent to Penn Engineering, using code 2888. If you are unable to include the unofficial scores on your application, but take the exam by the deadline, your application would be held until we receive the unofficial scores. We must have at least those before we can begin reviewing your application.
