Shaun, we don't have pre-requisites for the Bioengineering program. If you're admitted, then it is based on your application, skills and academic history. You wouldn't have to take anything else to meet the qualifications.

Also, my undergraduate degree is in Electrical Engineering.  In order to move into BioEngineering what courses would I need to take?

Hi I would like to apply for MCIT on campus program .I did my UG in Electrical Engineering and have worked as software engineer for the past five years. Am I overqualified for the program? I would like to know how the daily life of a graduate student will be like

Evan, the main difference here would be the other courses that would be required, as they're be more focused on the specific program you're in - for example, if you do CIS, then your core courses will be more CIS focused.

Hello Will, I'm considering a PhD in one of the robotics programs. I read that for the degree, robotics is selected as a concentration within CIS/ESE/MEAM, but regardless of the choice, it will be overseen by the GRASP lab. Do you have any information about the differences between applying to and working with each department?

Oguzhan, I recommend you send an email to Mike Felker, the Program Coordinator, at mfelker@cis.upenn.edu about this, as he knows this better than I.

Hi Will,
I am an international prospective student willing to apply to CIS/MSE. I have two questions in mind:
1- I have my BS in Industrial Engineering and am aware that CIS/MSE program strongly recommends applicants to have CS background. But I believe I have enough qualifications as the jury of Fulbright commission have granted me with a master's scholarship in CS area. Do you have any examples of CIS/MSE students who do not have CS background?
--second question will follow--

Pablo, the majority of our applicants are recent graduates, but we do have had some working professionals in the program as well.

Hi Will, thank you for your time. I'm applying to System Engineering. Is that Master focused on experiences professionals or recent graduates?

SrjaniS, I'm sorry, but we don't offer spring admission. In addition, we do require the GRE for all applicants.

Hello Will. I am interested in joining the Master's course in Biotechnology with a concentration in Biopharmaceuticals. Could you please tell me if there is any Spring 2020 opening for this course? Could you also please tell me if GRE is an absolute necessity for application. And if there is any other specific requirements for the course.

Yogeshgudi, that is all very impressive. However, we don't do a review of applicants prior to the submission of their full application, so I'm sorry, but I can't tell you your odds of admission. May they be ever in your favor.

Thankyou Will, I do have one more query, regarding the acceptance rate. I did my bachelors in Electronics and Communication Engineering with CGPA of 7.5/10 from Anna University, India in 2018.  I have one pending patent and 4 projects in the Electronics and Embedded Domain. I am now working with Broadcom and I wanted to know the chances of getting admit. Can you please tell me. And I had 3 backlogs during my bachelors.

Bryant, if you've researched the website here: https://dats.seas.upenn.edu/, you're good to go.

I am interested in the Data Science program. I can't find any info for prerequisites outside of the general requirements page. Are there any ride-or-die academic pre-reqs that need to show up on a transcript?

You're welcome, Connor.

Martin, both rounds are very competitive, but the little data we have (this is the programs 3rd year) shows that the early round is slightly less competitive because there are more applicants for the later round.
Martin

Hi Will, nice to e-meet you. Martin here. I'm very interested in MSE Data Science Program in Upenn. I'm wondering the difference of early ddl (Nov 15th) and regular ddl(Mar 15th). From what I heard from my seniors, the early round was more competitive in the last two years(may not be true) although the website recommends students submit application in the early round. Could you please give any information about the difference of these two rounds? Thank you!

Hi Connor, I can tell you that we admitted approximately 10% of applicants, and expected approximately 22 students to start the course this fall.

Hey Will! Do you have any data on the size/demographics of the data science cohorts?

Guest, I recommend you email Courtney Johnson, the Biotech program coordinator, at cojoh@seas.upenn.edu with this question. She can do a better job of answering it than I.

I am curious about the biotechnology professional masters degree. I have a bachelors in cell/molecular biology and have taken CALC I here at University of Pennsylvania. Would it be very beneficial for me to take CALC II before applying to the program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:05
Avneesh, I would recommend that you send an email to Mike Felker, the program coordinator for the MCIT program, at mfelker@cis.upenn.edu, and ask him this question.

I am considering the MCIT/CIS programs. However, my undergraduation is in Mechanical & Automation. But I have 5 years of work experience in designing and porgramming software systems. Which out of the two programs should I be targetting?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:04
Yogeshgudi, the Embedded Systems MSE program is not accepting applications for the Fall 2020 term.

Hi Will, I am applying for masters in Electrical Engineering and is Embedded Systems still accepting applications?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir

Guest, yes that would be fine.

Good morning Will. I have a question about the unofficial transcript portion of the application. I'm having a hard time getting an unofficial transcript from my undergraduate alma mater - they've changed their systems around since I graduated and I no longer have access to their academic records system. I can evidently purchase an official electronic transcript to be sent directly to me - would this be appropriate to upload to the application?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:04
Shaun, we'll view that in the context that it exists and your personal statement can go a long way with enabling us to understand why, after 14 years in industry, you are looking at getting your PhD now.
Shaun Jagmohan
10:03
I have been out of school working in private industry for about 14 years now.  How will the Admissions Department view that?

10:03
Wei Ting, you need to upload transcripts for any course that you received academic credit, UNLESS that course is also listed on another transcript in full - name, credit earned and grade.
Wei ting
10:02
Hi! For transcript, if we attended a community college, do we need to send that in as well?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir

I am considering the Bioengineering PhD program of study.
