Hello, welcome to my Steelers chat. Let's go!

Hi Ray - There are rumors flying around regarding Fields to Pittsburgh. Even the “Vegas” odds show the Steelers as favorites to land the Chicago QB. Based on your knowledge, how likely is this scenario and would you be surprised if the team decided to go this route? Thank you.
Ray Fittipaldo

I wonder if those Vegas odds shortened after Adam Schefter said what he said yesterday on the Pat McAfee Show? To me, it doesn't make a lot of sense. If you're going to trade for Justin Fields he's walking in as your starter. And everything we've heard from Mike Tomlin and Art Rooney II since the season ended is how they believe in Kenny Pickett and want to see him with a new OC. Listen, I never say never on these types of things. Fields is probably a better QB than Pickett. But trading draft capital to get him (and likely pick up his fifth-year option) two years after you draft Kenny Pickett in the first round doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Good afternoon Ray. I would like to know your thoughts on Michael Penix. Big guy, decent arm. Maybe a fourth or sixth round pick. Would be good as third QB. Let him sit and learn. Thanks
Ray Fittipaldo

I wasn't overly impressed with Penix or any of the other QBs in Mobile. But investing a mid-round pick in a QB might not be a bad idea depending upon what happens with Rudolph in free agency.

Are the Steelers actually looking for a legitimate upgrade to the QB room or are we just going to get Gardner Minshew Vs KP in camp ?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:55
Or Ryan Tannehill.

Hello Ray love your chats!  2 questions: given 2025 qb class seen as weak would you be aggressive moving up in draft this year to
Ray Fittipaldo
1:56
They'd have to be super aggressive because after the top 3 I'm not sure how good this class is.

Are you hearing the same things that Benjamin Allbright apparently is when he says that he “know(s) for a fact” that the Steelers will call the Bears about Justin Fields?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:58
Now you're going to make me look up who Benjamin Albright is, aren't you?

Who are the next Steelers on the chopping block to be cut/released?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:58
WR Allen Robinson is a no-brainer.

Thanks for the chats Ray!  Can you name the only coach in the Super Bowl era to keep his job after 8 seasons of not winning a playoff game?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:59
Marvin Lewis?

Would you trade TJ Watt, George Pickens, and the Steelers 1st round pick for CJ Stroud?  How about for the Bears overall #1 pick?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:01
Stroud looks like he's going to be the real deal. I'd be awfully tempted. Just look at the Super Bowl. If you don't have a guy like Patrick Mahomes you're always looking to upgrade.

What would you like to see happen with the QB situation for next season, and what do you think will realistically happen?  Thank you.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:03
I'd like to see them sign Tannehill. He can be a mentor to Pickett and a guy he can lean on when it comes to the nuts and bolts of Arthur Smith's offense. Beyond that, draft a QB on Day 3 to fill out the rest of the room. Evaluate in 2024 and then attack the position in 2025 if Pickett fails to impress.

I keep hearing that Tomlin likes Justin Fields. What does he possibly see in him? The guy has a horrible record, and his stats are awful. He isn’t even as good as Trubisky, and he doesn’t even come close to Mason. Does Mike really understand what to look for a quarterback? With his recent selections of Pickett, Trubisky, and Oladokun, I would have to say leave the quarterback choices up to someone else.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:04
It's like a four-year old game of telephone tag. Tom probably took Fields out to dinner on his pro day so that automatically meant the Steelers were/are interested in acquiring his services.
Draft Woes
2:05
Every draft for the past decade has been very bad with the exceptions of TJ, Mason, Highsmith, and a few others. Last year seems like a good draft. Tomlin and Khan have been involved in the organization for a while. The only difference last year was Weidl.   Are we able to keep him around? If so, is there finally reason to hope that we will learn how to draft again?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:06
I'm sure Andy wants to run his own team but Pittsburgh is home for him so I'm sure he's happy to be working where he is.
Insanity

In terms of success that matters, the Steelers are at their lowest point since the 60’s. Isn’t that enough to blow it all up and make major changes to the roster and coaching staff?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:07
No. They'd be just fine if they had a QB. The rest of the roster is solid pretty much anywhere.

Hi Ray, what do you think is the percentage chance Rudolph is with the Steelers next season?
Ray Fittipaldo

35%

With the new OC shall we expect another RB AND FB to be contributors?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:09
I don't know about that. Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren are a good 1-2 punch. Not sure I'd add there when there are so many other holes on the roster.

Colbert's drafts in 18', 19' and 20' we have TWO players remaining - Alex H and DJ. That speaks volumes of how awful his drafting was at the end. Can we agree his tenure was highly overrated?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:11
Kevin Colbert also built the teams that won two Super Bowls and appeared in another from 2005-2010. Every GM is going to have good years and bad years in the draft,

Couldn't we have gotten something for Chuks rather than just releasing him now?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:12
I think you might be overestimating his trade value just a tad.

Would Dan Moore and Patrick Peterson end up starting the season if we draft OT and CB, especially early on? For Peterson, it would be him starting at outside CB. Thanks in advance
Ray Fittipaldo

Maybe for a short while, but not for more than a handful of games.

Hi Ray, Steelers need to draft C/CB/DL as priorities for improvements to their roster.  Like the names of Zach Frazier, C-West Virginia,  T.J. Tampa, CB-Iowa State, and Kris Jenkins, DL-Michigan.  Any thoughts or observations you made at the Senior Bowl on these players?  Thanks.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:14
Frazier was there but did not practice. I think he's getting closer to full health. I think Frazier is going to be a really solid pro.

Hey Ray, I enjoy your appearances on the “Joe Show” (formerly “Cook and Joe”.)  If asked, would you consider partnering with Joe?  I think you two would be great.  Thanks.

Will Joe still sing his songs during the show?

Do you think Steelers should or would pursue Chase Young or Terrell Edmunds this off-season?
