Or another free agent. Or a draft pick...

Hi Ray. You do a great job.why is it when a perfect pass is gonna hit claypool in the numbers,he jumps as high as he can and he has his hands facing opposite directions.lands in crumpled heap on the ground.of course without the ball? Plus like when they show diontae catching ping pong balls pregame.never drops one .a football different story.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:31
Claypool has great athletic traits. Can run fast, jump high, etc. He just doesn't put it all together on the field. Not sure that can be taught, either. Some guys are fast and never develop into great receivers. Other less talented player develop because they have a knack for getting open, or a knack for the run after the catch or just become great route runners. The Steelers used to be very good at drafting receivers. They need to rediscover that.

I fear that the Steelers will pick up a Marriota or a Trubisky to compete with Rudolph and Haskins.  I imagine players in that category will want 1 year prove it deals at $8 - $12 million.  Don't you think this would be the WORST thing they could do?  Using valuable cap space to marginally improve over what they have and not even solving their problem longer term if the guy has a surprising big year.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:33
What those guys have over Rudolph and Haskins is more mobility. Probably not a lot else. So I guess it will be a question of how much does Tomlin really want mobility to be a part of the equation at QB.

I didn't mind Moore at LT this year. In my opinion they need help interior. What about Lindenbaum at C and sign Jensen in the offseason?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:34
Why acquire two starting centers? Either you sign Jensen or draft Linderbaum. You don't do both. But if you ask me I'd rather have a guard or tackle in the first round. Nothing against Linderbaum, but he's on the smaller side, too.
2:35
Depends on who's available and the market. If i had to guess I'd say CB more than OL, but I could see them signing both in FA.

How much cap money will Steelers save when Tuitt is gone?  I think it is clear he has retired.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:35
About $9 million I believe.

2:35
In the conga line of Steeler QB’s between Bradshaw and Ben, who would you rate as the top two or three?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:36
Hmmmm. Neil O'Donnell led them to a Super Bowl and an AFC title game the year before so he'd have to be up there. Malone took them to an AFC title game. Kordell did it twice. Mike Tomczak and Tommy Maddox weren't bad, either. They just didn't have the same postseason success as the others.

I don't like to trade great Steelers players but ..New England did great trading guys still with a lot in the tank for #1 picks. That being said, should the Steelers trade Heyward if the ifreturn is if.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:37
No.

2:37
Is the rams running game being as incompetent as the Steelers running game against the Bengals a sign of hope?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:38
Ha ha. No! They need to address that. Rams were lucky they pulled that game. Couldn't do anything on the ground, threw two picks... Aaron Donald bailed them out. And Stafford and Kupp too at the end. But mostly Donald, who should have been MVP.

¿On what date will we know of the cap casualties?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:39
I believe the new league year begins March 16 or right around there.

2:39
Hi Ray, Do you see any chance of trading out of the first round to acquire more draft capital?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:39
I wouldn't be against it. If they like the depth in this draft and believe they can still get a quality player after they make that move then do it.

2:39
Ray can you tell why the Steelers chose not to bring Munchak back to coach the O-Line?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:40
Based on conversations I've had Munchak doesn't want to leave Denver. Not even sure he'll coach this year.

2:42
Hi Ray! Can we all just give the new guy Meyer a chance, and maybe some talent, before we pound on Munchak's door and beg like a broken-hearted teenager for another stint? Geez. Get over Munchak, can we?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:43
Who isn't giving Meyer a chance? He just got here. Mike Tomlin needs for him to work out. Having a revolving door at OL isn't good with so many young players.

Given the myriad of needs both on offense and defense, does it make any sense to be talking about trading away draft picks for an experienced quarterback? Especially for an old guy (Rodgers) or a guy who might never play again (Watson)?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:43
All of those have big contracts too.

2:44
This had to be the greatest playoff season ever   Only one game (which shall remain nameless) didn’t go down to the wire. What do you attribute this to?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:45
Parity! And if the Steelers had any semblance of an offense that game might have come down to the end, too. The Steelers defense had some steps and created some turnovers early to give them a chance. But the offense was downright awful and failed to take advantage.

Ray, thanks for your coverage & for these chats. I have to believe the Steelers brass is too smart to profess their love/admiration for Malik Willis in front of the entire NFL scouting community. My guess is this is their typically player due diligence. Or, did they go way out of their way to show interest in Willis?  Thanks.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:46
All that happened was Tomlin spoke with Willis on the field after one of the practices. I believe Willis said Tomlin was merely introducing himself. Don't get too concerned with stuff like that this offseason. I'm sure you'll be hearing about meetings and dinners at the combine and pro days, etc. The Steelers will meet in some form or another with all of the QBs because they need one. But it doesn't mean they're going to draft one.

2:47
Worst case scenario. Haden, Tuitt, Edmunds, Shoebert, all gone once Free Agency starts. That’s a lot of holes to fill.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:47
Releasing Tuitt and Schobert would free up about $17 million in cap space though.

2:47
Any chance they cut BUSH???
Ray Fittipaldo
2:48
Don't see that happening. They'll give him a chance to bounce back.
Cain
2:48
Ray before you leave can you tell us was this the best Super Bowl Halftime show ever?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:49
Halftime show wasn't bad. When Dr. Dre say down at the piano I thought he was about to belt out Come Sail Away!
Jay
2:49
Ray why doesn’t the Steelers consider using Claypool in the slot? His size and speed is a mismatch against LB’s and safeties the same way LA used Keenan Allen. It’s obvious Claypool has speed but not straight line speed to take top off a defense.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:50
Maybe that will be in his future. WR is a sneaky need for the Steelers with JuJu, Washington and McCloud all hitting free agency.

Hi Ray - I am not a big fan of Carson Wentz. I hear the Colts may release him. If so, any chance the Steelers sign him for a year or two as a stopgap until they can find their next franchise QB?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:52
Not sure that would be a good option. Playoffs on the line, and he lost to... Jacksonville. I know there is some good mixed in there with him, but he's mostly underperformed since the knee injury.
