Keith Butler was the DC last year and also coached the OLBs. So Flores is taking over him as LBs coach, but he's not the coordinator. Teryl Austin is the DC and held a similar job the past three seasons as the one Flores holds now.

What is your finger to the wind, gut check feeling about how much Flores can approve this defense, assuming Tomlin actually will take other peoples input?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:25
He is a quality coach and a new perspective can always help when things get a bit stale.

Winton, Mitchell, or Marcus to bring in? I think Rogers and Wilson are too expensive and we need assistance in other areas. Thoughts..
Ray Fittipaldo
1:27
Tribusky or Mariota isn't a bad thought. They're mobile, which is something Tomlin is looking for in ha QB.

Hi Ray - The Steelers have interviewed an impressive list of candidates for their GM position. Do you think one of the external candidates could stand out enough to win the role and Hunt/Khan report to him or do you think it is certainly going to Hunt/Khan?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:29
Sure. But I still think Hunt/Khan combo is likely.

How much of the infatuation with Malik Willis is real? 4.3 athlete but not very accurate. Would you trade up, say to 10, like a Bush deal, and draft him?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:29
Nah.

Does Kendrick Green have a future with the Steelers as a starter?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:30
Maybe. They'll give him another shot to compete this year. But he's a third-round pick. Not every third-round pick turns into a starter. Colbert spoke about the OL yesterday. He regrets not signing another O-lineman to help last year. Just because he started this year doesn't mean he'll be a starter for the final three years of his rookie contract.

Hi Ray, do you think Trubisky would be worth a look? He would probably come cheep, high pedigree. Maybe a change of scenery does him well (didn't play in Buffalo). You never know he could another Jim Plunket.
Ray Fittipaldo
1:31
Yeah not a bad point. People forget Plunkett struggled with the Patriots before having success with the Raiders. Might be worth a shot if he comes cheap. And not sure he will. We shall see.

Odds of Tuitt returning? If not, any UFAs on DL that you would consider? Akiem Hicks? Fletcher Cox?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:32
They're both up there in years so I'd pass unless they come cheap.

Colbert said that DT was not a strength in the draft.  Does that make it more likely they would take a player like Davis out of Georgia in Round 1?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:34
Perhaps, but they'd have to be convinced he can be more than a nose.

Hi Ray. thank you for the chat. Any chance Steelers will peruse D. Watson this off season? he can play behind a bad Oline like we saw before.
Ray Fittipaldo
1:35
Art Ii would have to be onboard. I just don't know if anyone has a grasp of how those alleged incidents will play out in court. So it's hard to say.

If the Steelers decide to move on from Joe Haden, are there any solid options in free agency? I would hate to see this team use a draft pick on a CB. To say they stink at it would be the understatement of the millenium.
Ray Fittipaldo
1:37
JC Jackson is probably the top CB on the open market, if the Pats don't use the franchise tag on him. He'd command top dollar though. There are some other options. If they move on they'll move onto someone younger. Haden is 32.

Ray - If you were Teryl Austin would you be pissed that the Steelers brought in Flores?
Ray Fittipaldo

Good coaches welcome other good coaches and different perspectives.

Hi Ray. We all know the Steelers don't typically make a "splash" in free agency but do you think they might this year? If so, any names to keep an eye on (hopefully O Line or D Line)?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:41
OG James Daniels. I mentioned him earlier. Maybe CB Donte Jackson from Carolina. He'd be a mid-tier signing, which is the way the Steelers usually go in free agency. Those are two I like. Rest assured they'll use some of that cap space to address some of their needs. The rest will go to Minkah and the draft class.

Sign Trubiski to a 2 year 10-12 million deal, have him compete to start, if he doesn’t work out, draft a qb in 2023 and let Trubiski back up and let Rudolph walk. What you think?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:42
I don't know about that exact scenario, but maybe.

Why is mobile QB such a priority fir Ciach Tomlin? Burrows isn't that mobile. More of a smart runner than mobile. Stafford definitely isn't a mobile QB...Just saying neither superbowl QB is considered mobile....Lamar hasn't really proved anything as a mobile QB, and we'll Mahomes is starting to get figured out too....Option?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:42
Burrows is mobile enough. He scrambled for about a 15-yard TD against the Steelers. You just need enough mobility, and he has plenty.

Good afternoon. Are there any comp picks this year? Also, who are you taking at 20?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:43
A comp pick likely coming in the fourth round. Lots of possibilities at No. 20, but I'm still leaning OL.
Jay
1:44
Hello Ray.  Big ticket FA.  OL, CB, DL or don't get your hopes up?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:44
OL or CB but maybe not "big ticket."
Pete
1:45
Ray - Flores might have no experience in this defense but what about for the Patriots? Maybe the Steelers need to change their defense. Weren't they 30th against the run last year? What would they lose?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:45
Injuries had something to do with that. Not making excuses for them, but losing Alualu and Tuitt for basically an entire season had plenty to do with the run defense last season.

Hi Ray, if 'm the Steelers, I wouldn't even think about Watson. When there's smoke, there's fire, and there's a lot of smoke around Watson.  We already had to endure a lot of drama with others,  why go down that road again?  thoughts?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:46
I'm not saying they should or will, but there have been plenty of athletes to get and capitalize on second chances.

Ray, do you think that the Steelers goal, this year, is to draft well enough, on D, that Wormley can be let go?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:47
Wormley isn't that expensive to keep as a reserve. And yes he's definitely better as a reserve than a starter. He had to play last season because of Tuitt's situation.

Ray, if an ILB, with the talent of Devin White, would drop to #20, would you draft this ILB and trade Bush?  Thanks.
