Not really.

Hi Ray, it would seem to maximize the return for Pickens that waiting for a playoff team to lose their top receiver would be the best approach versus draft time
Ray Fittipaldo
12:20
And what if no one gets hurt?
Kevin
12:22
In your time at the post gazette, is this the darkest time for Pittsburgh sports?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:23
I started in 1997 so it's close. 2003 wasn't a great year, was it? Steelers 6-10. I think the Penguins and Pirates were bad then too. Pitt basketball was good though. For an extended period this has to be the worst. Penguins no playoffs three years running, Steelers no playoff wins in eight years and the Pirates, well, they're the Pirates.

Who is Patterson’s biggest supporter? I realize he is cheap, but what is the gain or his role?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:24
He played for Arthur Smith in Atlanta so I think that's the connection. Surely it can't be from any impression he made on Steelers coaches last year.

Steelers love to draft off their top 30 visit list. Looking at this years, there are very few 1st round players and a bunch of 2nd - 4th round type players.  I realize it can be difficult, but could this imply a potential trade back or possibly trading a player (Pickens) for a Day 2 pick?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:24
You might be onto something, Scott, but let's see who the final 13 visitors are.

What about Russel Shell for the 3rd person in the Tesla?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:25
Another good one! Keep them coming.

Will the new kickoff rules making it more advantages to kick the ball in play change how we fill the roster?  More emphasis finding a “good” returner. Not Cordell either!
Ray Fittipaldo
12:26
If you've noticed, a lot of the WR and RBs they've brought in for visits double as return specialists so  I think that's definitely on their radar.

Ray, do you see the Steelers trading Pickens during the draft?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:26
It's a possibility, but they'd have to get the right return.

12:27
Ray, do you see Roman Wilson actually being a consistent contributor this year on offense?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:27
I have no idea. I didn't see enough of him last season.
Life's Work
12:28
Hi Ray.  The national media and draftniks seem to be pushing a QB selection at 21. Have to think they don't have a clue. One of their 2 biggest needs was not addressed in FA. They generally get a starter capable FA and follow up with a draft pick when there's a weakness. Since that didn't happen, and this class is weak at QB, doesn't it almost guarantee DL at 21 and maybe again in the 3rd or 4th?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:29
You would think, but maybe they believe Ekuale would be serviceable if they did want to go in a different direction. I'm not advocating that. I think they should go DL too in Round 1, just mentioning that as a possibility.

Do you think Harmon and Grant will visit?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:31
I'd be surprised if Harmon didn't. They like him and the top brass did not go to his pro day. I'm not sure what happened with the top brass at Michigan's pro day. I know Tomlin and Khan could not attend the actual pro day because of the Aaron Rodgers visit, but they could have winded and dined some Michigan players the night before.
Scott

What do you think of Pegues DL from Ole Miss? He can double as a FB and feels like a great Steeler pick in 4th round
Ray Fittipaldo
12:31
Wouldn't mind that at all. I interviewed him at the combine. A pleasant fella too.

12:32
If Chase Claypool could fetch a 2nd round pick, what could the Steelers get for George Pickens?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:32
Not every team has a GM like the Bears.
But I'd say a 2 is the best they could do.

Ryan Whitney was the fifth overall pick in 2002, the first American off the board. He's another candidate for the Tesla.
Kevin
12:33
If 2003 was the other dark time in Pittsburgh sports, Ben drafted in 04, Sid and Cutch in 05, so there’s hope right?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:33
"Remember, Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies".

jaylen warren can’t be an rb1 going into next year right?  Not with those fumbling issues.  It has to be one of Jeanty, Hampton, Judkins, Henderson, or Johnson right.  Has to be.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:34
Is there an RB1 in the Steelers offense anymore? I mean, Warren and Harris split the touches the past three seasons. They just need a good back to complement him.

12:35
Ray, do position coaches have any input in the draft?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:35
Yes but the head coach and front office have more of the say.
AK
12:35
Jeanty will be long gone by the time the Steelers draft?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:35
Almost certainly.
AK
12:35
But is a 3 more likely for Pickens?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:36
I don't know. It only takes one.
AK
12:36
Same for Tyler Warren?  Long gone?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:36
I'm guessing yes.
