See how he does this season and then move on if he's not worth re-signing.

Hi Ray , I’ve seen reports saying Pat Freiermuth is a good blocking tight end, others saying his blocking needs work. What is your view? Can he help the running game this season?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:26
He's already better than Ebron although I admit he set a pretty low bar last season. But no, he's not a finished product right now. He is better than average now and has a chance to be a good blocker because he has the size to pull it off.

What do you think of the Steelers trade up into the 5th round?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:26
I think they really like Isaihh Loudermilk. And he better be good.

Who do you see as the odd man out at the RB position??? Is it possible Snell gets cut???
Ray Fittipaldo
2:27
I was thinking Samuels, but we'll find out in a few months.

Mel Kiper was pretty down on the Steelers Draft. But Mel Kiper is an idiot, so there's that. I always operate from the understanding that good draft grades are reserved for teams that had lots of room for improvement. I gave the Steelers a solid B+.  What say you?

Can you explain why they chose Green over Mienerz?  Love to understand that selection.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:29
Green played last season; Meinerz did not. Green played in the Big Ten; Meinerz played versus Division III competition. Green had some experience at center; Meinerz does not and taught himself how to snap the ball last fall. I'm all for good stories, but I think it's OK for him to go where he went.

Who do you see as the likely starter next to Bush at ILB this season?

Do you think the Ravens overpaid for Valeneuava? I hated to see him sign with them, but the Steelers wouldn't have paid that much. Sorry if I misspelled his name.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:31
I just don't understand the signing from the Ravens; point of view. They're a running team, and he's not a good run blocker. They don't need a left tackle once Ronnie Stanley is healthy, and Villanueva has almost no experience on the right side.

I still can't get over KC giving up next year's 4th round pick to draft a DE that not many people seemed interested. I don't know what KC sees in him that no other GMs see. I was hoping they get Shaun Wade who had a 1st round potential as a slot CB.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:32
They like his size and potential. They think he'll develop.

i think harris will balance our attack, but wouldn't he be more effective with BB under center?
Ray Fittipaldo

I think you might see some of that,

Maybe this isn't  fair but Terrell Edmunds even looked a bit lost, certainly 3rd fiddle to his brothers in the Kaye Jewlers commercial they did with their mom. Is a step up from him a possibility for a lesser deal after this season?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:34
Just wait and see how he plays. If he plays well the Steelers and others will want to sign him.

Was it the '74 draft that netted the Steelers four HoF players? I wonder what 'draft grade' they got. I got an 'A+' in my fantasy draft, and ended up in eleventh place! Will you be glad when all this draft analysis is over?
Ray Fittipaldo

It's not over yet?

The only thing we know for sure, is that we don't know what rookie will give you in 2021.  That said, with the limited cap space available, what position/player would you consider bringing in?  OLB? CD?
Ray Fittipaldo

Does the Steeler's selection of a TE this past weekend preclude bringing Jesse James back?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:37
Probably unless the Steelers are unhappy with Zach Gentry and Kevin Rader in camp. There was a time not all that long ago the Steelers weren't happy with James and traded for Vance McDonald a few days before the 2017 season.

I am hearing complaints about Pat Freirmuth in round 2. Although, not a PSU fan, I was ecstatic about the pick. The argument is that the o-line needed a boost.  It seems to me that an in-line tight end capable of blocking adequately IS an upgrade to your offensive line.  Am I missing something?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:38
I think it's a good pick as long as he can stay healthy.
Dirk
2:38
What do you think about the decision to decline the fifth year option Edmunds?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:38
I don't think he does anything well enough for the Steelers to earmark $6.7 million on their cap for him.

Hi Ray,with all the runners in the AFC North, time to bring back Aaron Smith. No one could run to that side when he played.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:40
Let's bring back Joe Greene too.

Hi Ray:  Do you chuckle at all the pundits that mouth off the Steelers had a terrible draft because they didn’t take Humphrey in round 2?  You would think Humphrey is a first ballot HOF and K Green will park cars with Artie Burns?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:41
Kevin Colbert made it very clear he didn't think there was much difference between the centers taken in the second round and the ones in the third round. Green, if course, was the third-round pick.

Hi Ray.  Al V. signed a contract with the Ravens, today.  He will  get a 2 year deal for $14 mil, with $8 mil guaranteed.  The Steelers couldn't/wouldn't do that. Agree?  Thanks
Ray Fittipaldo
2:43
wouldn't and couldn't. He's on the downside of his career. I'm not saying Okorafor will be a superstar, but I think they'll be Ok with him at LT.

Ray, are you looking forward to T.J. & Co. vs Big Al? I am.
Ray Fittipaldo

I'm sure they know each other's tendencies after going against one another for the past four years.

Only one question so far on bringing back the All Pro Jesse James (sarcasm).
