Yes I can see that. He has a specific role in being able to stop the run. All depends on how the special teams break down to be honest.

What's UR professional opinion on the trade of Dotson to the Rams, by ridding team of his contract, & improving the team's draft capital?(I think it was a HOMERUN, bc they were probably going to cut him, at the final moment)
Ray Fittipaldo
12:30
If he wasn't going to dress for games, why not get something for him? I think it was a good move.

Not sure if you heard, but I never had a losing season.  Am I turning into Marvin Lewis - above average regular seasons and minimal postseason success?  It took Marvin 3 straight losing seasons to move on with his life's work.  How many in a row can I have and still hold my job?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:31
You forgot to mention Tomlin won a Super Bowl and Marvin Lewis never won a playoff game. I'm not sure anyone who knows football would ever compare Mike Tomlin and Marvin Lewis. And I'm not saying Lewis was a bad coach. It's just there is a big difference in their postseason record -- and regular-season record, to boot.

Ray, the Steelers had significant depth at interior offensive line until this past week. Dotson proved himself to be more than serviceable at OG went healthy.  Yet, the Steelers decided to trade him for very little in return.  Herbig has a shoulder injury.  If Seumalo gets injured this team will have major issues at guard.  Seems like a risk they didn’t need to take.  Why they insist on keeping Kendrick Green is beyond baffling because he has shown that he can’t effectively play guard or center.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:34
Perhaps they believe Spencer Anderson or Ryan McCollum is capable of being the No. 4 guard. Really, the only way it becomes an issue is if Daniels or Seumalo and Herbig cannot play in the same game.

Hello Ray, is Gentry being in the Atlanta game deep into the fourth quarter a bad sign for him to be on the 53? I hope not.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:35
Not sure. He's a good run blocker. A team with a need at TE would snatch him up. I don't think he could get to the practice squad.

Ray, as somebody who spent time at camp how would you rate Kendrick Green's practice work at Center? Did he practice much at Guard? He looked pretty bad in the preseason and I am trying to get a feel how he did in camp.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:36
Green didn't have a good summer. He played most center in camp with some exposure to guard. I do think he played better in Atlanta than the first two games. He played guard against the Falcons.

Hey Ray, enjoy the chats.  Should we Steelers fans be concerned about the play to date of Patrick Peterson?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:37
Considering it's a very small body of work, no.
12:38
Well, they have 16 spots available so I can't name 16 guys, but here are a few I'd try to sign: OLB David Perales, WR Dez Fitzpatrick, OL Dylan Cook.

What cut players do you see the Steelers signing to practice squad
Ray Fittipaldo

Question to previous answer.

With Broderick Jones seeming to underwhelm in training camp & in pre-seasoon games, do you think he was a bit overrated coming out of Georgia? The Bulldogs are such a powerhouse, and everybody looks pretty good on that OL.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:40
I feel like I've written or said this a thousand times, but Broderick Jones came out after his redshirt sophomore season. He had fewer than 20 college starts on his resume. He is learning a new offense and new techniques under a new offensive line coach. It takes time. And yes, I still think he can start at some point as a rookie.

Hi Ray, thanks for the chat. My question: If Kendrick Green makes the team, is he officially Dan McCullers 2.0 (i.e. a guy who kept making the roster but nobody knew why)? Thanks.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:41
Yeah but did McCullers ever play fullback?

12:43
Can you remember the last time the Steelers kept an entire draft class without cutting a single one? Let's assume Trice would have made it and that Anderson does.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:44
I just did some quick research on Pro Football Reference, got all the way back to 2011 and the answer is no. I'm sure it's happened before, and I agree with you. Anderson has a good chance of making the team.

Hey Ray, will Larry O. be ready to start on the DL against the 49ers? Seems like the Steelers gave him a nice contract this offseason, at least partly based on him being healthy. That doesn't seem to be the case the past few weeks.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:45
Will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow. Anyone who goes to IR today is ineligible to return this season. Anyone who goes on IR tomorrow or later is eligible to return. Ogunjobi didn't play in a preseason game and missed a lot of practice time. That's something to watch tomorrow for sure.

Will you go to Vegas for the Steelers vs. Raiders game? If so where will you stay?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:46
I am going. Not sure where we are staying, but I believe it's within walking distance to the stadium.

Is there a potential #4 CB currently on the waiver wire who's a better fit than James Pierre? (I think Bradley Roby might be out there.)
Ray Fittipaldo
12:47
Yes Roby was released today. The Steelers liked him coming out of the draft, but that was a long time ago. He is 31 now.

Any cuts to date surprise you?  I thought Robinson had a a chance but he got cut early.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:47
Kenny Robinson flashed early in camp but did not sustain it.

12:47
What's the latest on G Nate Herbig's shoulder injury? Will he be available as a top OL backup against SanFran?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:48
We'll find out tomorrow. If he doesn't go on IR it's a good bet he'll be able to dress for the 49ers game.

Would like to see Cam Heywards reps decrease , particularly early in the year, because he can be so dominate . At his age he needs more rest .  Do you think that is the plan now that they have solid depth?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:49
They do have better depth for such a plan. Not sure we'll see a big decrease, but they like some of the younger guys on the depth chart too.
Steve in Canton
12:50
Thanks for the chats, Ray. Do you see the Steelers trading a serviceable DL guy for an upgrade at CB?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:50
It's possible, but Omar would need a dance partner to make that happen.
Mike from DC
12:51
Hey Ray, from what you’ve seen in camp, how does the talent of this Steelers roster compare to others you’ve seen over the past 10 years or so?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:52
Talent or depth? I think this is one of the deepest rosters in a while. As far as elite talent goes, not so sure about that. I think the Steelers have some good players now, but Pickett doesn't compare to Ben Roethlisberger in his prime...Diontae Johnson doesn;t compare to Antonio Browns in his prime... Najee Harris doesn't compare to Le'Veon Bell in his prime, etc.
Jim_Bow_Dean
12:52
When players are waived injured do they receive any of their salary?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:53
Oftentimes they'll come to an injury settlement with a team before they are released.
