Which might be closer to a fourth because the Rams are likely a playoff team. Call me crazy, but I'd keep trying to work with Claypool and hope the light goes on for him at some point.

Any doubt Sims gets a helmet this week?  I mean Gunner is a gonner...
Ray Fittipaldo
2:29
Looking like a strong possibility.

Ok, maybe I'm starting to see it but a-lot of plays around the league are looking like Canada called plays.  Is it just that he calls the wrong ones at the wrong time, they're not executed properly, or am I watching the wrong games?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:31
I don't know that you're wrong. I think the best way to describe his play-calling after four week is disjointed.

Hi Ray, with the injuries to Underwood and Sutton, do you think Kazee will get significant playing time maybe as early as this week against Buffalo?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:32
It didn't sound to me like Kazee is ready to come off IR. A questioner asked about Kazee and Austin and Austin is the only player Tomlin mentioned as a possibility to begin the 21-day window this week.

Why do we keep thinking Maulet can cover?  You can see teams actively targeting him every time he covers.  Good at tackling and blitzing not covering
Ray Fittipaldo
2:33
I think they were hamstrung against the Jets because of the injuries. Norwood had to play safety because Edmunds was concussed. So he couldn't play corner in sub-packages. And for whatever reason they didn't put Pierre in and have Sutton play inside. Maybe that'll be an option this week.

do the steelers run as many crossing routes as other teams?  they seem to work, especially against us
Ray Fittipaldo
2:34
They work against the Steelers because there is no pass rush to speak of right now without Watt.

Ray, my in-laws showed me a VHS tape the other day of the Steelers vs Miami back in 1994.  The Steelers of old, Kevin Greene, Joel Steed, Levon Kirkland, Gregg Lloyd etc seemed much "bigger" than our current D.  Are today's Steelers smaller than then?  Could this be part of the lack of physicality of this current team?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:36
Yes they are smaller. It has everything to do with defenses having to deal with smaller and faster receivers. Back in the 1990s, every offense had a fullback and two tight end personnel was common. Not so much anymore. So defenses have to have smaller personnel to match up. Kirkland was a 275-pound inside linebacker. In today's NFL, he'd be moved to defensive tackle.

Hi Ray - are TJ and Kazee eligible to come back after the Bills game?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:36
Yes they are, but that doesn't mean they will.

DeMarvin Leal has really stood out, especially last week. Does he have a chance to be a long term starter?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:38
For sure. I'm sure you've noticed the defensive line is aging out. He could be a starter as soon as next season. And they should target another defensive linemen in the first three rounds next season, too. They have to get younger -- and better -- at the position

What is your opinion on how Devin Bush has played so far? I think he has look better this year than last.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:39
Bush has been OK.

Assuming TJ is healthy, what is this defense missing in terms of impact player?  A true shutdown corner or stud ILB?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:39
A true shutdown corner can be a gamechanger for any defense.

Why is it difficult to hire big name coordinators? Is it related to Tomlin?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:40
Certainly. He's the one making the hires.

Based on watching Kenny Pickett for the last 3-4 years, I would suggest that he resembles Josh Allen via the way he plays the game. Your thoughts?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:41
He's not the runner Josh Allen is. And I'm not sure he's the thrower he is, either. Let's let Pickett play for a while before we make any comparisons, OK?

I should have ask this after the draft... if the draft were before free agency do you think they still sign Trubisky or just go with Rudolph until they feel Pickett is ready?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:42
Easy to say Rudolph now, but obviously they didn't have confidence he could do the job.

What is the situation that happens when an ineligible player is downfield? Has the play changed from what was intended?  Is it just an accident on a linesman part?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:43
It's happening and being called more by officials because of the RPOs every offense has in the playbook nowadays.

Thanks for the chats, Ray!  I love Mike Tomlin but admit to being annoyed when he is so dismissive of women reporters questions in press conferences. I know he's often short and dismissive of everyone, but have you noticed a pattern with women?  Thanks!
Ray Fittipaldo
2:43
You were right when you wrote he's dismissive of everyone.

Does minkah play on Sunday i know Tomlin said today he might be limited they could us him vs Buffalo
Ray Fittipaldo
2:44
I think so. Tomlin said he has a knee to manage, which sounds like he'll practice later in the week and try to go on Sunday if it feels good.

Hello Ray. This is looking like an epic first losing season for Tomlin? Im sure he'll get a bit of a pass because of the qb situation. What do you think?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:45
The QB situation is one thing, but he has to own this defensive performance. It's supposed to be his strong suit.

Did Mitch seem to not fit as well in the locker room with the guys? You hear a ton of guys talking about the change from Mitch to Pickett like a weight was lifted.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:46
Reading the tea leaves, yes. Tough situation for Mitch from the get-go. He's signed in free agency and then a month later the future of the franchise is drafted. He had to know then his time as the starter was going to be limited. I think the players picked up on that, especially the receivers. And once Pickett proved in practice he could be a quality QB what happened Sunday was inevitable.

Thanks for the chats, Ray! With Pickett taking over. Do you have an updated prediction on the next 4 games? Im sticking with 1-3, but it would be 0-4 with Trubisky
Ray Fittipaldo
2:47
1-3 is my call too.

Raymond, are 19 catches for 224 yards (and no 6-pointers) enough to justify me spouting off?  It's a real close call, no?
