Given the state of the secondary, I think they need to sign Cam Sutton again. Not that he's Deion Sanders, but he's the best CB they have on the roster, and he's versatile. He's not a CB1, but he can be a CB2 or play in the slot next season.

Is it possible that Matt Canada is calling a good sequence of plays but the penalties kill the process? I know he likes to script plays to set up  defensive mistakes-
Ray Fittipaldo
2:26
But he keeps calling the plays even though his linemen go downfield. Maybe it's time to scrap the plays that constantly put the offense behind the chains.

Ray been reading the positive spin on the trade of Claypool simplifying things for Pickett doesn’t this also simplify things for opposing defenses?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:27
Ha ha, like it hasn't been easy to figure out this offense to date.

Hi Ray.  Love the Chats.  As a former offensive lineman, do you think part of the problem with the run game is the splits that the offensive line uses.  We see the illegal formation penalties and tight splits, i can't help but think that makes it more difficult to run the ball.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:29
It doesn't seem like many teams p[ay attention to line splits anymore. I think that was much more of a thing when teams were trapping.

Can you confirm Najee is dealing with a Lisfranc/foot injury. If he is not, he stinks.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:34
He's been dealing with it since camp.

Would you agree that for the 2023 draft, O-Line and D-Line are the priorities?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:35
Yes and CB.

I see NBC flexed Steelers -Bengals out of the Sunday night game. Do they bother to put the Steelers on SNF at all next year?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:35
Steelers always draw. And you never know year to year how the team will improve.

So, Jackson in, Watt in, Kazee in, Chase out. Two guys need to be removed from the roster, any word on who it might be? anyone headed to IR?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:36
I don't think the coaches will have any problems cutting guys from a 2-6 team.

Fetterman v Oz-  who you got,,, in a punt, pass n kick contest?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:37
Fetterman. He was probably 6-6, 230 like Andy Reid was.

When will we know whether TJ is playing Sunday?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:37
Unless he gets injured in practice this week he's playing.

Did Omar make a mistake in taking the Bears’ second round pick instead of the Packers’?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:40
I think he made the right call. But yikes do the Packers look bad.

Which one of these 2023 NFL free agents would you sign? Orlando Brown, Javon Hargrave, Tremaine Edmunds, Marcus Peters, or Jesse Bates.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:41
Edmunds or Bates. They're younger and fit the Steelers FA mold. But I'm not ruling out re-signing Terrell Edmunds if he wants to run it back on another cheap deal.
Hi Ray
2:41
Steelers won’t “tank”, but at what point do you give some of the younger players higher reps vs folks that will not be here next season.  When the playoffs are officially out?  Thanks
Ray Fittipaldo
2:42
The playoffs are out when they're mathematically eliminated, which could come as soon as December 1 if the offense doesn't improve this month.

Good afternoon Ray does Boswell come back and play this week go Steelers
Ray Fittipaldo
2:42
Well, Sciba is still on the roster so we'll see what happens in practice this week.

Hello Ray.  Do you think Coach Tomlin is too enamored with defense?  Good teams today have great offense and a complementary defense, but Tomlin prefers the opposite.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:44
You say that, but it's about the roster. In 2014, he had a great offense and a terrible defense. And guess what? They got bounced in the first round of the playoffs.
Cliff
2:44
Are Steelers retooling or rebuilding?  If retool, why not get Quinn or r. Smith?   If rebuild, get rid of Hayward, watt and older players for a boatload of picks
Ray Fittipaldo
2:45
Watt still has some prime years left. He's the type of player you build around. Call it whatever you want, but they need to get better in the trenches if they ever want to get out of this. It's been more than five years since they had even a decent offensive line. The running game has been awful in that span and the defensive line has showed its age in the past two seasons.

Any truth to the rumor that Art Rooney is going to fire Matt Canada and replace him with Rocky Bleier?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:46
I heard the same thing but only with Merrill Hoge, not Bleier. ha ha

I think that Nagee needs to run out of the I formation in order to get his momentum. Running out of the shotgun hurts his running style. What do you think?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:47
It didn't hinder him as much last season. I think this foot injury has been underplayed mostly because the coach almost failed to acknowledge it from the beginning and made it seem like everything was fine when it's become obvious it wasn't.

The Andrew Luck narrative with the Colts was that he retired cause the team's failure to invest in the O-Line left him too beat up to want to keep playing football.  The Steelers/Roethlisberger were once in a similar place and yet he persevered and finished a long career here, eventually taking fewer and fewer sacks.  Same narrative, two guys made of different stuff (physical and mental)?  Or bad luck for Luck while Ben mostly avoided serious injuries?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:50
Definitely two guys made of different stuff. Luck obviously went through a lot with injuries and decided he had enough. He made a decision that was best for him and his family. Ben went through some injuries too, but I don't think to the extent Luck did. To each his own. We forget these guys have to live for another 40-50 years after their playing career. Getting out when relatively healthy is something some guys definitely think about.

I know Bush is having a decent year but he’s def going to be playing somewhere else next year, do you think at some point once we are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, they at least throw Robinson in there to see if he’s someone who could play for us next year?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:50
Maybe, but the Steelers way is proving yourself on special teams first. And he doesn't even dress on game days.

Najee is clearly hurt.  Tomlin never acknowledged his injury and still won't.  Now Najee could get benched for an UFA.  Is Tomlin damaging Harris' future by not addressing the injury and giving the perception that he just isn't good enough?  Could his stubbornness be causing more issues?
