There were some drops early in the third quarter. I think Pickens had two. So it's not all on the play calling. But yes, overall the QB and the coordinator have to come up with something to avoid those lulls in play. It's become a pattern, and it almost cost them for a second week in a row.

Ray, 6 remaining games.  How many can we win?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:20
3-3 is very doable if Pickett continues to play well. Wouldn't be surprised with a 4-2 record.

HI Ray, happy to get a win, illogical though it may be relative to the draft. My question is about the pre-snap motion that Canada loves. Several plays with Sims going in motion, passing Pickett, then reversing and going past him again as we snap the ball for a hand off down the middle. I get setting up the opposing D for later in the game which we did on the Gunnar jet sweep. My question though is: are the "successful" jet sweeps of 7-9 yards worth all the subterfuge? Seems like a lot of effort to set up the opposing D for middling gains.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:22
They haven't really fooled anyone with that stuff this year. I think it was Merrill Hoge who said on Ben's podcast the jet sweep motion brings guys into the box, which obviously clogs things up in the running game. I'm not saying it's all bad. I'm just saying after two years of this, what good has it really done?

Hello Ray  Watching last nights game in the second half the offense was having a tough time staying on the field. Is this due to play calling, bad execution by players or just other teams adjusting better than the Steelers are?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:23
All three things you mentioned. The receivers had some drops for sure. But it's on the coaches to anticipate some things after halftime. Maybe they throw a new wrinkle in even when things are going well. It's a chess game.

Thanks for the chats, Ray! I think its pretty visible KP8 is getting more comfortable each game. (less TO worthy plays, moving through progressions, decision making, etc.) Do you think moving on from Canada would hurt is progression next season? Im not a fan of the OC, but also continuity means a ton
Ray Fittipaldo
2:24
I don't think they'll take that into consideration. Continuity is nice, but there has to be 100% belief in the coordinator. If no, they're just wasting their time.

What's your take on devin Bush's current play and will steelers try to sign or draft Ilb
Ray Fittipaldo
2:25
Bush has been solid. I think they'll let him test free agency and leave the door open for a return the way they did with Edmunds this year.

I have noticed more and more players in the NFL and college not wearing mouth guards.  With all of the emphasis on player safety this seems strange.  Not to mention, I thought that was a penalty.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:26
You're right. That's never enforced. I think players feel they can breathe easier without one.

the trade of Claypool is looking like a win for sure. However the WR room appears extremely thin all of a sudden. What guy will step up the remaining yr to latch on to the 3rd spot.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:27
You have to start thinking of Freiermuth as a WR. They do.

Hello Ray. Has anyone ever asked Tomlin why DJ continues to run backwards after almost every catch? Isn't that something that could be coached/corrected?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:27
They need bumper lanes for him.

Second highest points of the year and didn’t even need the defense to score.

Growth by Pickett.

Hi Ray - Did being in street clothes and the practice squad for most of the season motivate Snell and McFarland? One of the better performances for Snell and probably the best for McFarland
Ray Fittipaldo
2:29
I'm sure it motivated them. But this is the NFL. You can't feel sorry for yourself. You have to be a pro and do your job. As Tomlin says the worked while they waited.

Why do people keep saying DL is top draft priority? They are much improved over last year. Larry O seems like big addition. If they re-sign him, doesn't DL become a lower priority to upgrade?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:30
If they sign him. Plus, he has some injury concerns. Heyward is 33. Alualu is 34. They need to inject some youth into the crew. Doesn't have to be the top pick, but I'd say one of the top three. Or address in free agency.

when will coach t stay awake to start the second half of games and understand teams adjust. Better teams will just tear them up. Colts are no better and that’s the only reason it was close enough to win
Ray Fittipaldo
2:31
The kickoff return certainly helped, too. But yes, they need to start better in second halves.

2:31
How much say Coach T or Rooney has in draft picks or was it solely on Colbert? I know Colbert nailed some picks like TJ, Heyward etc but there have been too many bust picks too.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:32
Colbert and Tomlin collaborated.

Ray-  End of game clock  mis-management by Colts saved the Steelers from another disastrous second half.  We seem incapable of stopping ANY NFL tight-end on MOF throws.   How could Steelers do a better job in stopping MOF pitch and catch?  Who do you put on field Ray??
Ray Fittipaldo
2:33
They had to play without Spillane last night. They like him in those situations. They could use the three-safety look more. That would be one option. But it's all about what matchups the coaches like.
Yates
2:33
Ray/. Say 22 is out next game but 30 is good to go.   Any chance 24 starts ahead of 30?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:33
I doubt it, but I think you'd still see a lot of Snell.
Yates

Ray-  if DJ makes catch in EZ and 8 hits Pickens in EZ when he cleared wide open how much does that change this game narrative for 8?

I was watching the Detroit game on Thanksgiving and I all of sudden got a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. Is Kenny P. a younger version of Jared Goff. Please tell me I’m wrong?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:35
Hey, Jared Goff took the Rams to a Super Bowl. I think Pickett has a higher ceiling than Goff, but he's in that range of QB.
Jim
2:35
Why not give someone else a chance at LT? Can't be any worse than Moore.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:35
Who? Jesse Davis? Trent Scott? They don't have anyone to try.
Jim Bow Dean
2:36
What do you think of Raven’s QB Coach James Urban as their next OC? Jackson has certainly improved under him the last 5 years. He also 18 years of NFL offensive experience and began under Andy Reid in Philadelphia.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:36
I'm for anyone who can step in and not have a transition period. If they make a change the new guy has to be able to mesh quickly with Pickett and install his offense without much transition.

Hi Ray, Diontae literally and figuratively took a few steps in the wrong direction last night. He whines about getting the ball then drops a sure TD pass. Do we see him supplanted as WR1 this season? At least Pickens makes a spectacular catch or 2 to go w/ his drops.
