In a few weeks they could be under .500 with him. Think about that. What would their record be without him?
Zach
12:22
When will the 14 other owners (70%) of this franchise step in and demand a HC change? This culture of being the players buddy is old and stale and clearly not working any more? We need a leader of men NOT a friend of boys to lead this team. Enough is enough
Ray Fittipaldo
12:22
I'm sure those opinions are being voiced, but I can assure you Art Rooney II is the only one who is making those decisions.
Sam
12:23
Ben being available but not used and the non-timeouts late were horrible decisions by Tomlin, but I hated the choice to go for 4th and 1 at midfield with Dobbs in.  If they had any running game going, maybe, but they had established nothing and had their backup in the game.  Thoughts?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:24
Yes, in hindsight, they should have punted and tried to pin them deep. You should read my story later this afternoon where I break down the run game miscues. I wrote extensively on that drive.

Looking at everything - the losses as huge favorites, the lack of in-game adjustments, the poor challenges, the persistent defense problems, etc. - are the Rooneys not doing their job if they don't look at other Head Coaching options?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:24
Not sure we're at that point yet, but we could be in three weeks if they lose out.

12:25
Ray...what was Fichtners gameplan yesterday?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:25
It wasn't good enough whatever it was. The Steelers weren;t exactly clicking on all cylinders when Roethlisberger was in the game in the first half.

8-7-1 get Tomlin fired? This feels like the end of the Noll and Cowher eras in Pit.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:26
8-7-1 gets you in the playoffs if the Ravens lose 2 of 3. Would they make a change then? Hard to say. Probably not. 7-8-1? Now that's a different story.
Greg
12:27
Has Tomlin learned that our linebackers are incapable of covering wide receivers and tight ends?    Second week in a row they were exploited.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:28
The worry with the package with seven defensive backs is teams will audible to runs and go down the field that way. It's a double-edged sword. But at this point, what do they have to lose? Burnett, Edmunds, Fort, Bostic and Williams have all been below average in coverage.

talk radio believes BR has full autonomy when comes to his availability during a game. Do you believe he can simply overrule MT if he thinks it best to stay out and let the backup play?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:29
I don't know how he was feeling so I can't answer that question. Maybe he wasn't eager to go back in because he was in so much pain. I honestly don't know.
Juice

Here is how this will go....Pit will beat NE, lose to NO and get beat by the Bengals to be eliminated from the playoffs. Thoughts?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:30
Now that would be Steelersish.
With Vontaze Burfict injuring someone with a dirty hit on the first play of the game.
Zach
12:31
Tell me besides being a great cheerleader - was does Mike Tomlin bring to the table? He is supposedly a defensive coach, well our defense sucks. With this offense no way they should not have been to another SB over last several years. Art needs to realize he’s losing the fan base, it’s time for a change of culture in this organization. Maybe even starting with him too!
Ray Fittipaldo
12:31
Fire everyone! Including the owner!
Juice
12:31
Can we please stop throwing the WR screen? It works maybe 1 out of 10 times you run it.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:32
It hasn't worked for the Steelers very often which is why it's so strange to me we don't see the fake screen with the E running down the seam more often. We saw that quite a bit with Todd Haley. Not so much with Fichtner.

Is it worth $5,000,000 to cut Boswell?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:33
I wouldn't be surprised if that's what happened.

12:33
When (not if) the Steelers miss the playoffs, will this be enough to get rid of Tomlin?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:33
Don't know if we're to that point yet. Could be getting close though especially if they lose out.
Dr. J
12:34
Any possibility we get rid of Boswell? I think we will be fine for the remainder of the season. Our toughest test will be on the road to New Orleans. Yes, we will beat new England/Cincinnati at home.  But we cannot go into the playoffs with an inconsistent kicker.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:34
Dr. J, quite the optimism for a team that has lost 9 of its past 11 to the Patriots. You are a glass full kind of guy! I like it.

Speaking of mismanagement, how did the GM not bring an NFL RB or a decent third receiver into the fold before the season? There were plenty out there before last summer.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:37
They drafted James Washington in the second round. It was their expectation he would be ready. Randy Fichtner said as much the night they drafted him. Second-round picks are usually more productive than Washington has been. I don't know if you can blame Colbert for that. Maybe you can blame him for picking Washington, but not for not stocking the offense with weapons. He knew they were think at WR and used a high pick to get one. Washington has had a rough rookie year. End of story.

The Steelers look like they just can't consistently cover tight ends, no matter how washed up they are.  What can they do with this bunch to finally solve it?  Or is it a lost cause?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:37
I'm leaning toward lost cause.

12:38
How can a professional coach have absolutely no idea about time management?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:38
Well, what happened Sunday in Oakland was bad. He has to do better. He was lucky Boswell even had a chance to kick a 40-yarder.
Colin
12:38
Think Tomlin gets canned if we miss playoffs?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:38
If they lose their final three I think it's a distinct possibility.
Juice
12:39
With Dobbs in the game, would it not be wise to roll him out and at least allow him a chance to run? Narrows the field for him to look over and he can scramble for at least some positive yardage.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:39
He did scramble a few times for first downs. That was the only way they were moving the ball in the run game in the second half. Not all were on rollouts.
JoeB

Calling timeouts while on D is kindergarten level football. It's so basic, it's ingrained in video games. Tomlin is foolish for "saving timeouts" for the offense, who can spike the ball or go out of bounds. Raiders got inside the 10 with 1:46 left and Tomlin did not call a timeout. You have to save time for the offense at this point. Did he address this in his press conference? Will he get asked more about it tomorrow?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:40
He was asked and he gave an explanation. He wanted to have a timeout in his pocket for when the offense got the ball back. I'm sure he'll be asked again tomorrow.
