Honestly this is really sicking everyone is talking about Tomlin and butler but can we all just admit what the real problem is? It’s KEVIN COLBERT he is cheap he never want to get the top free agent or go after someone we can’t always rely on the draft the window is closing
Ray Fittipaldo
12:43
Colbert is not cheap. He spends to the cap every year because Art Rooney wants to win Super Bowls. He doesn't go after high-priced free agents because he believes it's best to build through the draft. If you want to knock him for his draft picks that's fine. But don't knock him for the organizational philosophy that has been wildly successful over the years. The bottom line is he has to do a better job of evaluating defensive talent. He's come up short in that area. But it's not about going out and signing the most expensive free agents.

Ray..does Tomlin have a guy like ernie adams up in the booth helping him with the clock and challeneges?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:44
Not on challenges. He told Steelers.com that he does that on his own. I don't think he has anyone helping him with the clock stuff either, but I don't want to speak definitely on that because I haven't heard Tomlin address that specifically this season.

What happened to Bostic? He was playing okay for a little while but has disappeared.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:45
He's OK against the run for the most part. He can't cover though. Speaking of Colbert and draft misses, how about Darius Leonard of the Colts? He went in the second round and could be the defensive rookie of the year. Maybe Terrell Edmunds will turn out to be a good player, but Leonard is looking like a star.

Ray any one in the media defending tomlim after Yesterday he still has not learned to manage a game and poor excuse for not putting Ben in earlier in a must win game
Ray Fittipaldo
12:45
I haven't seen anyone in the media defending him after yesterday. He would do that? He had a terrible game. Most are calling him out on it.
LA Matt
12:47
Devoid of the Bell fiasco, how can your primary backup running back be a guy who was out of the league last year before the Steelers signed him? Worse yet, after his crucial fumble in October and the fact that it looked like Bell was not coming back, why not replace him then?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:47
Good point but who was out there? It's not like there are quality backs on the street. Most of them are on rosters.
Aaron
12:48
Defense against Tight Ends are the Achilles heel of this team. Do you think this is scheme related or talent related?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:48
I think it's both.
steelmann58
12:49
Ray the lack of any defensive play makers is absurd who get the blame and how does it get resolved
Ray Fittipaldo
12:49
Drafting better players is a start. Problem is they have to start replenishing on offense too.
JoeB
12:50
Tomlin obviously took this game for granted and assumed he was getting a W. That's the only explanation for leaving Ben on the sideline for so long. How much longer can Tomlin come up so small against inferior opponents before something happens to him?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:50
Probably not much longer. The good news for him is they don't play the Raiders next season!
LA Matt
12:50
Considering the Steelers' recent free agent signings (Green and Burnett), maybe we should stay away from free agency?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:51
Right. Draft and develop is the way to go. Have to do a better job of drafting defensive players though.
Alan
12:51
Just my opinion but i wasn't surprised at all about the loss to the raiders. The Steelers need better players on defense and they don't seem prepared. What's you take?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:52
I agree with you on the personnel. And while I can't explain why they are seemingly unprepared for these types of games I can't explain it. The problems are never fixed.
JoeB
12:52
Who holds Tomlin accountable for clock management?  Colbert, owner?   He's a good coach but has needed improvement in that area forever.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:52
The owner.

Hi Ray. 3 straight excruciating losses, each one worse than the previous. The defense is so disappointing, another 2 easy interceptions dropped, one of which could have been a pick 6 prior to Oak field goal. Why did Hilton, on 4th down, let the receiver stay comfortably in front of him at the goal line? This was after a Tomlin timeout, during a clock stoppage. Of course defenders looked confused!
Ray Fittipaldo
12:53
Good points. Can't argue with any of them.

It seems that the plant foot shoe of Boz did not have very long spikes and would have benefited from show with longer spikes. Does the kicker bring extra cleats? And, shouldn’t this have been something addressed during pre-game warmups? Thanks
Ray Fittipaldo
12:54
Yes I'm sure he has different cleats and yes that should have been taken care of in pregame. A lot of Steelers were slipping around on that field.
JoeB
12:54
I think Roethlisberger already said that Tomlin told him "let's wait" regarding going back in the game. Is there really any way to justify that decision?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:54
No if that's completely true.

Patriots gave up 200 yards to Miami, do you think Steelers get 50?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:54
Nah, maybe 30.
Stash from Polish Hill
12:54
Patriots will put up 50 on that defense this week..tell me I'm wrong
Ray Fittipaldo
12:55
You're not wrong, but the Patriots defense isn't very good either.
Joe
12:55
How much is Colbert to blame for missing on secondary drafts, not trading for a corner, not getting linebackers, not having Plan B for Conner injury (or Ben injury), etc..
Ray Fittipaldo
12:55
He deserves some blame.
Paul from Louisville
12:55
Your gut feeling...team that bad or just playing bad?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:55
Team that bad.
Guest
12:56
This team is terribly inconsistent. IMO, the game day offensive and defensive game schemes and play calling are below average.   Some will argue that this team just doesn’t have enough talent. But, they’re losing to inferior teams. We know Tomlin is not going anywhere. Do you see any changes in coordinators next season?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:56
If things don't turn for the better soon? Yes.
Jack Straw
12:56
Given that 2 teams had highly successful hook and lateral plays yesterday, I wonder why teams don't try it occasionally when it's not an end of game scenario.  I realize it's risky, but so are so many other trick plays.  Do you think it has a place in other game situations?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:57
I like your thinking. More coaches should think outside the box. I wrote something a few weeks ago about pushing players into the end zone in short-yardage situations. Not enough teams take advantage of the rules or think outside the box.
