I ave to see him run more. As a receiver out of the backfield, though, he's probably just as good as Conner.

Ray, I fully recognize that the no call on the obvious false start was not the sole reason the Steelers lost last night; but it certainly hurt badly.  How will the NFL respond to that? During the TV broadcast it was indicated that an official lost his job over something similar earlier this year.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:33
I'm sure someone will get fired or be disciplined. But it's not going to change anything. The state of officiating in the NFL is at an all-time low. But let's keep Alberto Riveron in his job. That surely will help.

Ray, has it always been the philosophy of the defense to allow receivers to catch the ball in front of them and then tackle? I don't see any "ball hawking"
Ray Fittipaldo
12:33
That's not how they play defense. It's a conservative approach to playing defense.
12:34
The 2010 Steelers had a bye. They were the No. 2 seed. The 2005 Steelers did not. They were the No. 6 seed and won the Super Bowl. It could happen again, but it's just not likely, especially given the way the quarterback is playing right now.

Is getting that first round bye over-rated?  Jax made it to the AFCG without one.  2010 Steelers made it without one.

Is it safe to say that we can expect at least one idiotic interception from BB in every game he plays from now on?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:35
I don't know about idiotic but it does seem like he's good for at least one every game. That one Sunday night was a killer. You have to get points there and they came up empty because of the pick.

Does 9-6-1 hold off the Ravens (who play @ Chiefs and @ Chargers) and, if not, does that get the second wildcard with Denver, one of four 6-6 teams, having three winnable games  before hosting a Chargers team in week 17 with possibly nothing to play for?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:37
Interesting scenario there. It is likely the Chargers won't have anything to play for in Week 17.
Juice
12:38
8-7-1 and no playoffs. Thoughts?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:39
I think they go 9-6-1. Don't know if that will be enough to make it, but I can't see them going 1-3 down the stretch. If they do some heads should roll.

Its safe to say the Steelers may lose more games than win with the remaining schedule is it possible they dont make playoffs?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:42
Yes it's possible.

I keep hearing people say that good teams will overcome any adversity they face in a game including bad calls. I know the Steelers’ play took a nosedive during the second half... but man it seems that the Chargers were potentially gifted 17 points... 14 points minimum! It’s hard to overcome those mistakes!
Ray Fittipaldo
12:43
I don't disagree with you. But you still have to do something to prevent losing.

They fired a referee earlier this year for blowing a call in a game. Wonder what the NFL will do now after last nights debacle.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:43
They should fire the entire crew, Vinovich included. He should have stayed retired when he had his heath problems.

12:44
Ray,  Any concern to even winning the division? I see atleast two more losses. Oakland is no gimmy.  Thanks .
Ray Fittipaldo
12:44
I'd say their chances of winning the division is 50-50. I give the Ravens as much of a chance as they did.
Chad

Where was bud, cam, tuitt during the game? Not much productivity from top tier draft picks...
Ray Fittipaldo
12:45
They were getting some pressure, just not sacks.

Switzer injury opening the door for Eli Rogers?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:45
Let's see how these injuries play out this week. He is in the protocol, but Grimble was in the protocol and played Sunday.

What is the rationale for the false start not being a reviewable or reversible play?  Or why can't a coach use a challenge?  In a league that used to more time analyzing one catch than was spent on the Zapruder film,  that seems counterproductive.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:47
I'm all for it. Let's replace the spot reviews with reviews for false starts. It'd be a win-win for the Steelers. Tomlin wouldn't be able to challenge spots anymore!
TNSteelerFan
12:48
If no playoffs in 2018, is Tomlin's job in jeopardy?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:49
Probably not Tomlin's (unless they go 0-4 down the stretch). But changes could be made.
Rich T
12:50
Do you see them possibly looking to trade Bud Dupree this off season?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:50
And what could the Steelers get for Bud Dupree?
fredward
12:51
Do you think the team has lost it mentally? Ever since the supposedly cathartic Bell locker raiding, they seem to have lost their edge.
Ray Fittipaldo
12:51
They seem to have lost the ball. Eight turnovers in three games. Only one takeaway. That's not a recipe for success.
DW
12:52
Is this Boswell's final season as the kicker?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:52
They just signed him to an expensive contract. There would be a lot of dead money to absorb if they made that move.
steelmann58
12:52
Ray who gets a call if Conner does not play this week?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:52
Jaylen Samuels apparently.
steelmann58
12:53
Ray there is no way Artie should see the field i rather take my lumps with Brian Allen
Ray Fittipaldo
12:53
At this point, I can't say I disagree with you. But as I explained earlier there is politics involved. Giving up on a first-round pick this early isn't good for anyone in the building.
