They need an ILB now so yes I think he's worth it.

Forgive me as I am more of a Steeler fan than a foootball fan and do not follow much collage ball.  Are there any safeties in this draft that have potential to be developed into an ILB.  Obviously this would not be a high pick investment but more of a project pick perhaps.  If there are only a couple of ILB that have a safety type physical skill set then are there any safeties that might have an ILB skill set to be developed?
Ray Fittipaldo

A lot of those guys already made that move in college. Germaine Pratt of NC State is one of them. A lot of these ILBs are small and would have been safeties 20 years ago.

The consensus among "experts" is that after the top 10, there are about 40 second round talent players.  Would it be better to trade down from 20 AND package later picks of the 10 we have to maybe have 3 second round choices?  Just a thought.
Ray Fittipaldo
11:41
Not a bad idea. But Kevin Colbert had better be ready to wheel and deal and have some potential deals lined up.

Kicker and/or punter in the sixth and seventh rounds?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:42
I could see a punter in the later rounds.

Thank you for your chat.  Which Devin is  a better fit from a skills perspective for the Steelers Defense?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:42
Both would be good fits. White is a little bigger so he's likely to go earlier, but Bush will be a good pro I think.

are you aware if the steelers even had Darius Leonard on their board?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:44
They had him in for a visit last year so I assume he was on their board unless there was an injury concern. I don't know where, but he made All-Pro as a rookie.

bill cowher told you something 20 years ago, and you think it still applies based on today's player...yeah...THIS is why we will not win another super bowl
Ray Fittipaldo
11:45
I talked to Bill Cowher last week. He gave me insight into how Kevin Colbert might be approaching this draft because he worked alongside him for seven years... I said I couldn't imagine Colbert's process on trading up changing.

if one of the Devin's is there after pick 10....do you think the Steelers risk waiting for pick 20 to get him?  or is their a possibility that someone (Pats/Ravens or someone..etc) jump ahead of the Steelers to get them?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:46
Bengals could take Bush, Panthers have 16 and need an ILB. Plus, as you mention, the Ravens might want to beat the Steelers to the punch.

can you remind us of tomlin's challenge record last year?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:46
0 for something, I think. Teryl Austis is going to help him make those decisions this season.

Ray, If the Steelers do end up drafting cornerback Murphy from Washington (assuming Devinsl gone) would they put him on the outside to move Nelson and the slide board?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:48
That would be an interesting decision. I would imagine Nelson would start outside and they'd see where Murphy fit in. Murphy played outside at Washington, but I could see him playing and being effective in the slot. But do you pull the trigger on a slot CB at 20 if that's where he is going to be used?

Have you watched much of Mack Wilson's tape? Lot's of discussion during last season about him being a 1st rounder. I've seen reports that he ran in the 4.6-4.7 range at his pro day, but that's pretty much what Darius Leonard ran last year, and the Colts never had to take him off the field last year.
Ray Fittipaldo
11:49
I did watch Mack Wilson. He's not in Devin White or Devin Bush's class. Does not have the speed. That's what they need -- speed at ILB. So maybe third round I'd take a flyer or Wilson, but I can't see them taking an ILB high unless he's a three-down player.

Is there any chance they take TJ Hockenson the tight end from Iowa if he falls to them?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:50
Don't think so, but if he did he'd be enticing. Colleges don't produce players like him anymore. He's a throwback TE. He can block and catch.

If an OT like Cody Ford or Jonah Williams is on the board at #20 do the Steelers take him? This is also assuming that Devin Bush is off the board.
Ray Fittipaldo
11:51
Both are plug and play starters. Steelers don't need a starting OL so I don't see that.

11:51
Would you be surprised if the Steelers take a tight end in the second round?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:51
No I would not be surprised.

I’m not a fan of any of the corners at 20. Do you have any feel of whether they’d go wr or te over cb if unable to land the lib?
Ray Fittipaldo
11:53
Maybe safety?
11:54
That's it for this week. Kevin Colbert is about to come in for his news conference. We'll do it again next Monday and we'll discuss the new draft picks.
