Not much to draw from football in shorts especially when it comes to a position like ILB. Waiting for camp and preseason games to make my judgments.

Hi Ray, Do you think there is a chance they promote Matt Symmes to QB's coach so Fichtner can focus on just being the OC?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:21
Perhaps that will happen in time, but right now he's not in that role.
Javi
12:21
Hello Ray. Outside of James Washington who looks like will get the most playing time, who do you think will have the most impact of this year's crop of rookies? I think Jaylen Samuels could be a real gem especially if Bell is off to slow start. Keep up the great chats!
Ray Fittipaldo
12:21
Yes I forgot to mention Samuels earlier. The coaches really seem to like his skill set.
12:22
1. Matakevich 2. Bell 3. Heyward-Bey. They're really in trouble in September if Heyward-Bey is one of their top three WRs.

12:22
Ray, in what order would you rank these apparent "long shots" to be a game 1 starter, without injuries being a factor? Tyler Matakevich at ILB, James Conner at RB over a rusty Bell, DHB at WR?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:22
Question to previous answer.

Any word on how they are using Brian Allen and where he might fit in? CB, S, nickel, dime, depth, likely cut?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:23
Big camp for Allen. They kept him last year and he played special teams. He might have to show more in camp this year to make the 53-man roster.

Should we be concerned about the FS position?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:23
Not really. I think it'll be Sean Davis, but they're not saying it yet.

12:27
Should we worry about Boswell not signed yet?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:27
No. They have from now until the day before the season starts to get something done. They did DeCastro a couple of years ago something like three days before the season. Plenty of time.

What are your expectations for the kind of impact Edmunds and Washington will make this year? Fair to think Edmunds will be a starter by end of the year?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:28
Washington will  have a role right away barring an injury. I'm not ready to say Edmunds will definitely be a starter by the end of the year, but he could certainly have a role somewhere on the defense.

What has been your impression of Dupree so far? Do you think we can expect 8 sacks from him?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:29
I think they'll be disappointed if he doesn't have eight sacks this year. They're doing everything in their power to set him up for a big year.

With a healthy Tuitt, can’t we expect to be significantly more dominant around the line of scrimmage (better run defense/4 man pass rush)? I feel like this is not brought up enough with the prospect of returning to a dominant defense
Ray Fittipaldo
12:31
Yes, but he was healthy enough to be on the field then his play should reflect that. If he wasn't healthy enough to play then shame on the Steelers for not having enough quality depth to replace him. I get your point, but he did play a lot.

What are you expectations for Juju this season? Is over 9 touchdowns realistic?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:32
Sure. He had seven TDs. He should have more opportunities this season with Martavis Bryant gone.

Do you think Chuks can be a reliable swing tackle this year? With Munch coaching him up, I wouldn’t bet against it...
Ray Fittipaldo
12:32
Me neither. He has the raw talent. Now it's a matter of Munchak being able to get him ready in a short amount of time.

It would be nice to think we could recoup the 4th rd pick we used on Dobbs in a trade, but in reality we'd be lucky to get a 6 or 7, am I thinking right?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:33
They'd jump at the chance if they could get a sixth- or seventh-rounder for Dobbs.

12:33
What have you seen from Bostic so far? Haven’t heard a lick about him lately
Ray Fittipaldo
12:34
Bostic played mostly with the second-team defense in OTAs.

12:34
Any idea what's taking so long to sign Boswell to a long term deal?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:34
Place kickers have been getting paid lately. Well, getting paid for place kickers if you know what I mean. The price has gone up and it's not an easy negotiation.

Hi Ray, there hasn't been much news about Washington in camp.  How has he looked so far?  Is he proving to be more than a straight line guy?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:35
He's looked really good to me, but he'll have to prove it in camp and the preseason games.
Stiller
12:35
Hargrave have pro-bowl potential? Could be a scary defensive line if all healthy
Ray Fittipaldo
12:35
Don't know about Pro Bowl potential, but he can be solid.
lloyld
12:35
from what i notice on defense thier is a lack of discipline and they dont seem to swarm to the ball like they use to is that coaching or players
Ray Fittipaldo
12:36
Mostly players, but they've made some changes to the coaching staff and there has been constant talk about fundamentals and communication since then. So maybe that was part of the problem.
Stiller
12:36
Joe Haden seem like a lock down corner? With a health off season, I am hoping he can return to pro bowl level
Ray Fittipaldo
12:37
I thought Haden had a good year, but then I talked to Louis Riddick at the Pro Bowl, and he told me Haden was just another guy at this stage of his career. Put it this way, he was the Steelers' best starting CB last year and they'll need another strong year from him if they want to be a Super Bowl contender.
Rip Rogers
12:38
Keion Adams going to live up the hype he created last year or is Ola Adeniyi going to steal his spot?
Ray Fittipaldo
12:38
Adams will have first crack because they like his skill set, but he's earned nothing. Big camp ahead for him.
